On Hold
About Kya
A cuddly, sweet angel who is easy going - perfect companion for someone lonely.
Other dogs
Good. If Kya is picked on by another dog she will do everything she can to remove herself from the situation. Kya is a lover not a fighter. She has been attacked by other dogs a few times at the park so is quite timid around new friends but is keen to be social.
Cats
Never tested
Kids
Yes. We recommend primary aged school kids and older.
Size
50 kgs
Exercise requirements
Low - short strolls or playtime at home
How is your dog on/off a lead?
When on the lead she is well behaved. When off lead she is also very good but can sometimes tune out if smelling something interesting - but doesn’t go far
Escape artist
No
Nuisance barker or destructive?
No
Toilet trained
Yes
Tolerance to being alone
Kya will be no trouble if left alone. But we don't want her to sleep the rest of her life away so preference will be given to a home where she is wanted as a friend.
Likes
By far Kya’s most favourite thing is human company. She is a loyal, affectionate and loving companion. Kya will follow you around the house and settle close by or on her mat if you sit down. She is a perfect TV buddy as she doesn’t care what she watches as long as she watches it with you.
Dislikes
She is scared of thunder and strong winds and doesn’t like sudden loud noises or objects falling over etc. Like most dogs she will need to be soothed during a storm.
Ideal home
As Kya has a sweet, trusting and affectionate nature she will thrive in a home where there is someone home a lot and where she will be a cherished companion for a lucky human. Being a large and rather lazy dog she will not suit someone who wants a super playful and active K9. She loves people and older kids but is over the chaos of a young family full time – visits from youngsters are fine.
Someone wanting a very friendly loyal companion dog will find Kya a perfect addition. As Kya is timid her carers do not want her in a home with another dog where she might be picked on. They don't want Kya to share your attention.
Generally
‘’I love her nature for such a big dog. She loves going in the car and just being with you. Doesn't wander and can come out the front and sit and watch while we are gardening. My husband works away so it is always nice to have her in the room watching TV with me at night time for the company.’’ Written by Kya’s carer.

Adoption details
We strongly recommend you read the dogs' profile carefully as everything we know about the dog/s is listed.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner/s. It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog/s.
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we do not usually allow trials.
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
