On Hold
About Billie
Super intelligent, very obedient, comes when called and always looking for instruction. Loyal and eager to please, Billie will delight and also entertain you.
Other dogs
Socially Billie is friendly and has been seen shying away from aggressive dogs or those who may steal her ball. Billie is very people orientated and if another dog is getting a cuddle, she will push in for one as well. She is protective of her own human family and territory. If on acreage she will quickly find her place in the pack. In the suburbs she would be best suited as a single dog.
Cats
Never tested.
Other animals
Ok with sheep. We also have a photo of her with a rabbit.
Kids
Yes but we recommend primary school kids and older
Size
Approx 20 kgs
Exercise requirements
Medium - playful and energetic. Really loves her morning walks and enjoys playing tag with other dogs or people.
How is your dog on/off a lead?
Like most dogs she starts off pulling but settles down nicely. Billie does not have a lot of lead experience as she currently lives on 3 acres and is walked in the bush off lead. She usually stays close by and will come when called. Billie is very obedient
Escape artist
No. Once you bond with Billie she will be unlikely to wander off. She is currently living on a bush block and never strays far from her family. However, she does have a securely fenced yard when the family is not home.
Toilet trained
Yes
Tolerance to being alone
Good but as Billie prefers company preference will be given to a home with another dog or where someone is home more often than not. Billie is very people orientated and displays oodles of affection. She is a very loyal dog. If you are away from home a great deal and are looking for a companion to keep your current dog company Billie is NOT the dog for you.
Likes
She loves chasing sticks and balls plus walks and chomping on bones. Billie also likes swimming and being one of a family. You will always receive an enthusiastic welcome home from Billie and she will amble straight towards you for a cuddle.
Dislikes
Foxes. Also being ignored by her human friends - she will fret.
Ideal home
She is used to a biggish yard and will need to be with someone who will exercise her regularly. Hence, an active person would be great. You will need to want a dog to be the central focus of your life and not merely an addition as a token pet that is unlikely to get much attention. Preference will be given to folks who are home more often than not and have properties with large open spaces or regular access to them. Ideally she would love a job as a working dog on acreage but she will do well in the suburbs too.
Generally
Billie is very intelligent, obedient and responds well to attention. She loves a daily walk, swim in the dam and "helping" in the yard. She likes to be inside on hot days as she really feels the heat.
Her carers adore her intelligence and reliable response to instructions. Billie is definitely a real 'peoples dog'. She is also rather entertaining and will make you laugh.
Billie is currently living with another dog but as they both have very different needs they will be re-homed separately. So please don't feel guilty if you are only interested in Billie.

Adoption details
We strongly recommend you read the dogs' profile carefully as everything we know about the dog/s is listed.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner/s. It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog/s.
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we do not usually allow trials.
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
