About Fries
Introduction:
Fries is a female lilac tortoiseshell domestic short hair. She was born around 19th February 2014. Fries has been vaccinated, microcipped and desexed. She is protected against fleas and worms by receiving monthly topical Advocate and three monthly oral Milbemax.
History:
On an early morning run to the local McDonald’s, we found two tiny kittens in the garden rummaging for food scrapes. When approached they came up to us begging for food. It was a given that they were coming home with us into care at Little Paws. We nicknamed them Burger and Fries, funny enough, it stuck.
Personality:
Fries is a quiet but sweet natured girl. She's happy playing with her foster brothers and sisters in care but is just as happy entertaining herself. She loves to play with felt mice stuffed with catnip, our ball maze, in boxes and of course the lazer pointer.
Fries and the other kittens love to play in our secure courtyard amongst the plants in the garden. She is an awesome little bug catcher and has a habit of bringing her conquests inside to show us!
Fries is independent enough that being left alone throughout the day wouldn't bother her. So long as she can have some cuddles in the evening and sleep on the foot of the bed share she'll be happy.
From day one, much to our surprise, Fries has always taken a shine to our Shih Tzu. Not just simply being tolerant of her, but rubbing up against her and even wanting to share a bed and sleep with her. So a home with a small dog wouldn't be an issue for Fries.
We feel Fries relaxed nature makes her suitable for a wide variety of homes from singles to couples and families with young children.
* If you are looking to adopt a pair, a good match for Fries would be Jersey Boy or Charlie *
Medical notes
Unfortunately, Fries has been diagnosed with feline herpes virus. In Australia, around 80% of cats are infected with the virus however only a small percentage show symptoms.
It is a common cause of intermittent flu like symptoms including eye and upper respiratory infections in cats. Cats worldwide of all sizes, ages and breeds are susceptible to the virus. It is not contagious to people or other species of animals. Clinical signs associated with infection can vary greatly. When Fries is symptomatic, she has a tiny amount of clear watery discharge from her left eye. Luckily she does not suffer the respiratory symptoms that can be associated with it. Fries has been examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist to confirm that her eyes are normal and that her symptoms are the result of the virus. There is a strong possibility that Fries symptoms will reduce significantly or become completely latent (inactive) once she is adopted and is away from the other felines in the 'orphanage.'
Unlike her sister Burger, Fries continues to be overlooked due to her condition. However there is no reason that cats with herpes virus can’t live long, happy and uneventful lives. Owners simply need to be diligent watching for symptoms and treat them accordingly. Most of the time this simply means minimising stress and visiting your veterinarian if they develop complications associated with a flare up.
Adoption details
Home we’re after:
You must be able to provide Fries with a loving long term and safe home. This means premium nutrition, preventative health care, regular veterinary check-ups and keeping her inside. She would be fine in an apartment as long as she didn't have free run of the balcony (if it isn’t fully enclosed). Remember that owning a cat is a lifelong emotional and financial commitment so please be prepared to commit to loving and keeping your cat for the next 15 to 20 years.
Adoption Process:
Given you know a bit about Fries, we’d like to know a bit about you. We start off by emailing you our adoption questionnaire to get some details about who you are and what you’re looking for in a feline companion. Next step is to pop around for a meet and greet. There is usually a 24hour wait from the meet and greet to collecting your new family member so everyone has a night to think things over. Then, if all goes well and everyone is happy, the adoption paperwork is signed and you collect your new family member.
All adoptions are subject to a two week settling in period. If for any reason your new addition is not suited to your lifestyle, you are welcome to return them for a full refund of the adoption fee.
All adoptions come with an adoption pack which contains all their certificates and paperwork, information on preventative health care, diet, pet insurance and potential toxins/poisons around the home.
