Male Domestic Short Hair Cat
- Rescue group:
- Ingrid's Haven
- PetRescue ID:
Beckham is a delightful young boy - all in black. He is friendly natured and loves to be petted.
Beckham tested positive to FIV on arrival at Ingrid's Haven but this is not a death sentence, far from it. He can live a happy and healthy life. Just follow the below golden rules.
Beckham will need to see a veterinarian twice a year (instead of annually like you normally would), worming and flea treatments and vaccinating are essential as is good quality food. Do all of the above and the virus may never take hold All FIV+ cats should be kept as indoor cats – they are also very grateful if a secure enclosure is built so they can have inside/outside access.
FIV cats can happily live with other FIV cats or cats that have been vaccinated against the virus. (To vaccinate all it takes is a very quick blood test to see if your cat is FIV+ or Negative….and the results are known within minutes. Then an injection (given every two weeks – three injections in total) and your cat is vaccinated against the virus. You then just need to keep the vaccinations up annually as you would your normal vaccinations.
FIV is not a death sentence and it cannot be transmitted between human and feline. The reason they must be confined and not let to roam is that they can then spread the virus via saliva through biting. Please educate yourself by typing FIV into any search engine and help take the stigma out of it. These cats can live long healthy and happy lives
Please email Ingrid to express your interest in this gorgeous cat and she will provide you with further information on behaviour and personality and you can arrange a time/date to be introduced.
