About Sybil and Eleanor
Lady Sybil and Lady Eleanor are lovely chickens with sweet dispositions. They have slight differences in their personalities though, Sybil can be a bit cheeky and doesn't like to be told there are places she can't go. In fact, those become the very spots she just must investigate. Eleanor is a bit more reserved, especially around strangers at first. She's more inclined to receive a cuddle than Sybil, though Sybil does enjoy being close to humans who when she sees them. They are both more motivated by curiosity than just by food but will both leap, literally, for treats like grapes, corn or watermelon. These two ladies always carry themselves with dignity and expect respect.
They were both battery hens at the beginning of their life, and were initially adopted together, but their human left the country and was unable to keep them so we took them back to find another family, on the condition of course that they always stay together.
Medical notes
Sybil was given a hormone injection to prevent laying of eggs for 6-8 months approximately 12 months ago due to fatigue and repeatedly becoming egg-bound. This has since worn off but she has not been seen to resume egg laying.
Adoption details
We have an application form to complete that includes sending a photo of the housing you will be using for the chickens.
We will deliver the chickens to you and must be able to inspect the chicken housing and garden area they will have access too.
The following terms must be agreed to, these are included in the adoption form to sign at the time of delivery:
The chickens are NEVER to be killed no matter how old they get or if they stop laying eggs - which one day they will do, except for the case of humane euthanasia when all other alternatives have been exhausted.
If medical attention is required you commit to taking them to a good vet without delay and without concern for the cost of their treatment.
You do not use these chickens to make a profit. (selling excess eggs is ok so long as this isn't the purpose of having chickens, these are friends, not machines)
You give these ladies the love they deserve. They have come from hell and are entitled to the best you can give them.
If the adoption is unsuitable for any reason at any time in the future you will return them to the carer rather than selling them or killing them.
They are never to be eaten.
You must maintain adequate fox-proof housing.
Chickens must be allowed suitable outdoor access to roam and explore.
