About Gus
Well howdy folks, the name is Gus. And if Forrest Gump was a dog, then I guess I’d be him. I’m a sweet and gentle guy, a little slow on the uptake, but wouldn’t hurt a fly. A happy-go-lucky, relaxed kind of fellow, I get along with everyone I meet – canine and human (though I haven’t met any feline friends, so I’m not too sure if I like them or not). I’m good around kids, even little ones. I had been an outside dog before (and have lost the fur on the top of my ears to pesky flies), but I’m at my happiest inside where the people are – me and people, we go together like peas and carrots.
Just like Forrest, one day in my previous home, I decided that I would go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I’d run to the end of town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I’d just keep going, but by then I was tired and a kind lady picked me up and rescued me. It was really quite out of character for me to do that, because I haven’t gone for any unsupervised runs or made any escape attempts since, even in storms. 5ft fencing is enough to keep me nice and secure in the yard.
For such a young man, I’m very calm and settled. I have some hip dysplasia, which my vet has explained will not be a big deal but may mean that I could develop arthritis earlier than other dogs. It’s very manageable and I’m happy to share my vet’s tips on keeping me happy and healthy into old age.
Forrest and I are very similar in the fact that we are gentle souls who love to chat. I like to share my stories and how I'm feeling, so I will prompt you for a deep and meaningful conversation. I'm a very well-behaved boy and not interested in toys – hanging out with you is what makes me smile. I have basic training, but would love you to build on this foundation with me.
My Momma always said, life is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re gonna get. That may worry some people, but not me. I'm looking forward to seeing what – and who – the future holds for me.
