About Sandy
Sandy has a short black and white coat that is very soft to touch – her colouring is typical of a German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP). Since the GSP was developed to be a dog suited to family life as well as a versatile hunter, the correct temperament is that of an intelligent, bold, and characteristically affectionate dog that is cooperative and easily trained – Sandy displays all these qualities in her every day play and interactions.
Sandy is currently being fostered by a couple who have a red cattle dog pup; the two of them love playing tug-of-war and she also interacts well with other dogs and has displayed her calm friendly nature when being exposed to unfamiliar dogs at the dog park.
Sandy is boisterous when swimming however as a general rule plays extremely quietly \ - no barking at all. Sandy handles exceptionally well on and off lead and walks on average 2 – 2.5 km a day - she would be a suitable pet for an active famil but also enjoys watching the family fun from her cosy bed.
Sandy loves to be cuddled and is a very gentle and affectionate pup – she is happy to share cuddles with Columbus, her new play mate and partner in crime, and has not displayed any aggression (as some dogs do when having to share the attention); \ she does not jump up at you for attention and when commanded to jump it is very controlled and gentle; put simply by her carers she is a sweety and a real joy to care for, any home would be lucky to have her.
Currently \ Sandy has mastered how to sit, stay and come on command, however her new home will have to continue to reinforce this training. She has just learnt how to use a doggie door and as such is now fully toilet trained.
Sandy came to her carers two weeks ago with a tendency to think all food was hers, but with a bit of guidance she now sits and waits to be given her food and only eats from her own bowl, even the humans in the house can give / take food from her and touch her while eating with out any fuss or aggression displayed.
The only real area of improvement is her tendency to dig little holes, however Sandy's carers are now educating her on the do's and don'ts, mostly don'ts on digging holes :-) - and feel confident that she will pass this training with flying colours.
Sandy is fostered in Wagga Wagga.
Medical notes
Sandy has an audible heart murmur, which our vet expects her to outgrow as they are common in GSPs, but this will need to be monitored until it improves.
