About Dusty
Dusty is a male Domestic Short Hair cat available for adoption in Ashwood (Melbourne, Victoria).
If you enjoy a cat who’s present, observant and just a little bit cheeky, Dusty brings a steady sense of personality to everyday life. This domestic short hair is confident, curious and very tuned in to what’s happening around him — the kind of companion who likes to be involved.
He’s not one to fade into the background. Dusty enjoys keeping an eye on things, whether that’s supervising breakfast or claiming the best sunny spot before you’ve even noticed it’s available.
A little about Dusty:
🐾 Confident, social and full of personality
🐾 Affectionate with familiar people
🐾 Enjoys play, food puzzles and enrichment
🐾 Best suited as the only cat
🐾 Thrives with structured mealtimes and routine
Dusty’s days tend to start with enthusiasm, especially when food is involved. Mornings often include a check-in (and sometimes a biscuit-making visit) if you’re still in bed — a warm, affectionate way he connects with his person.
Through the day, he moves easily between quiet observation and relaxed rest. He may follow along to see what you’re doing, pause to investigate something new, then settle into a sunny spot nearby. He enjoys being part of the environment without needing constant interaction.
He’s also a cat who likes a bit of mental engagement. Food puzzles are a favourite, and his clever streak shows in small, entertaining ways — including figuring things out faster than expected. Keeping his environment interesting will help him stay happy and engaged.
With his people, Dusty is affectionate and confident. He’ll often approach with a headbutt or quietly place himself nearby, content to share space and companionship. His affection feels natural and steady rather than demanding.
When meeting new people, he prefers a moment to observe first. Once things feel calm, curiosity usually takes over — especially with gentle interaction (and the occasional treat).
Dusty is best suited as the only cat, where he can enjoy his space and form a strong connection with his guardian. He has shown he’s happiest when he doesn’t need to share attention or territory.
He enjoys safe outdoor access but has also adapted well to apartment living when provided with enrichment, play and comfortable resting places.
Structured mealtimes are important for Dusty. He’s very food-motivated and does best with clear routines rather than free feeding — something he tends to settle into quickly once established.
Life with Dusty has an easy, predictable rhythm.
Mornings might begin with breakfast supervision and a quick check-in. Afternoons often bring sun-filled naps and quiet household patrols. By evening, he’s ready to settle nearby, keeping you company as the day winds down.
He’ll suit a guardian who enjoys a confident, engaged cat and appreciates a companion who is present, observant and quietly affectionate — with just enough cheekiness to keep things interesting.

Adoption details
When enquiring about a pet listed with Home2Home, your enquiry goes directly to the pet’s guardian—the person who knows them best!
From here, the guardian will be in touch to learn more about you and chat with you about their pet. It’s a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the pet, including its likes and dislikes, needs, and how it may fit into your lifestyle and family.
If your home and lifestyle match the pet's needs, the next step will be arranging a meet-and-greet to make sure everyone is happy to proceed with a formal adoption.
Following the adoption, change of ownership paperwork will be completed, and proof of vaccination, microchipping, and desexing (if applicable, as indicated on the listing) will be provided.
All pets adopted through Home2Home will require an adoption contract to be signed and an adoption fee to be paid. The pet’s guardian will complete the adoption contract with you and provide a link to PetRescue’s secure payment portal for completing the adoption fee payment.
Home2Home currently operates a ‘pay what you choose’ system for cat adoption fees. This means that adopters will be able to choose an adoption fee amount that is suitable for them. All adoption fees are used to support PetRescue's life-saving programs, including Home2Home.
