About Charlie - 8 Year Old Kelpie X
Meet Charlie!
8 years old • 28kg of pure love • Confident, affectionate companion
This eligible bachelor is officially listed as a Rottweiler X (according to the paperwork, though his fans insist he’s a NZ Huntaway). Charlie is looking for something serious - ideally a long term commitment with someone who understands that snacks are a non-negotiable love language.
While Charlie is independent during the day - busy doing important dog things - he becomes extremely affectionate after 6pm. If you like your own space, but also enjoy cuddles, shared blankets, and being stared at lovingly during a movie, Charlie’s your guy.
He’s quickly embraced the finer things in life - couches, orthopaedic beds, air conditioning, and inside living like the distinguished gentleman he believes himself to be. But he’s equally content roughing it in the wilds of his backyard, where he can roll in the grass, patrol his territory, and reconnect with his rugged roots.
Charlie is also quite the conversationalist. He has a full range of vocals and isn’t shy about using them: happy growls during playtime, low grumbles, the occasional “talk back,” and a very impressive bark when he feels commentary is required. He’s not constantly noisy, but he will happily announce the occasional passing pedestrian or unusual activity outside. Consider him expressive rather than silent.
Very popular with his lady companions in his younger years, those days are now behind him. He’s trying to be reformed - keyword: trying. After being desexed earlier this year, he’s still a little frisky and, while he hasn’t shown any aggression towards other dogs, he does like to give them “special” cuddles. For this reason, he’d prefer to be your one and only, or at least have very supervised interactions while he adjusts to his new lifestyle.
Don’t let his age fool you - Charlie still loves a good play, a run around the yard, and long walks where he can take the lead. He can be a little strong on lead but generally walks well once he gets a bit of momentum going, so he will need someone confident and willing to continue his leash training.
He’s a big fan of home cooked meals, but also very polite about it - he doesn’t beg, won’t drool, and will not steal from your plate. That said, he’d absolutely sell you out for a treat.
With a full belly, Charlie is a respectful house guest - he sleeps through the night like a gentleman; no pacing, no wandering, and no surprise appearances on your bed (unless invited).
A little more about Charlie:
• Loves meeting all people
• Happy, goofy and charming
• Independent, yet cuddly and affectionate
• Quick learner and eager to please
• Loyal once committed
• Travels well in the car and loves a road trip
• House trained
What Charlie is looking for in his new home:
• Secure 6ft fencing - Charlie is intrigued by the world beyond his property
• A yard with plenty of room for him to stretch his legs, patrol his kingdom, and enjoy the occasional zoom around
• Children aged 8+ recommended – he likes children, but can get a little too excited and doesn’t know his own size
• No cats or pocket pets - Charlie has not been tested with smaller pets
• Commitment to ongoing training and enrichment, appropriate for a working-breed dog
• Ability to provide regular exercise and mental stimulation - once he’s had his morning exercise he will happily curl up and relax all day
• A home where he is included as part of the family - Charlie thrives on human companionship
Charlie is currently accepting meet and greets and is hoping to meet the right person to spend his life with. If you’re ready for commitment, cuddles, and a dog who will confidently insert himself into every aspect of your life, Charlie may just be the guy you’ve been looking for!
Charlie is in care in Maryville, NSW. His adoption fee is $300 and he is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for fleas, ticks and worms.
