Longfellow is a super lovely dog- with typical wolfhound traits.
She gets along very well with other dogs- and just wants to be with them. She loves to play, she tries to pull the rope with her large foster dog, and plays on her own with toys and does the typical silly wolfhound play (e.g. throwing things in the air, legs everywhere!). Most of all she loves ‘her human’ and wants to walk next to you, and to get pats (very easy, you don’t have to bend down) . Leash walking hasn’t been a problem, she just wants to be next to you :-)
She is great in the car, jumps in and just sits or lies down. While in town she loves to just observe and enjoys pats from everyone.
She absolutely loves water!
She has been great with our horses, and indoor parrot. She does get excited around the chickens when they run, she is a sight hound after all.
Longfellow can growl when playing, which is a little confusing to other dogs. Its her love language :)
Running around is fantastic, she thinks, but she is also very happy to lie on a couch the whole day, after a bit of a play. In house she is fine being alone.
Over the weeks she has been here she is getting a lot more settled and secure in herself, and shows more play, contact with the other dogs, but she is still very independent.
Longfellow is a bit weary of men men, but not scared of them. A calm and steady presence helps her a lot, so with some patience we are sure the will start trusting men more.
She can be food protective towards other dogs ( not humans she is super gentle taking treats) and mainly our large female, so we feed her separately. She has shown some jealousy behaviour in our group, not towards new dogs. We are still figuring out if that is true dominance or protection of the person she relies on most.
She is fine with our smaller male ( border collie and schnauzer) dogs and just loves playing with them.
