About Jemima
Beautiful Jemima has been so fearful of the world and she's now realising that humans aren't so bad!
Jemima was left behind on a property where all her goat friends were moved on and she remained, too scared to allow herself to be caught.
Vets For Compassion - a not-for-profit helping stranded, injured and displaced animals - safely darted her so she could be brought home. Jemima spent some time at another sanctuary (pictured in the last photo) but was struggling to come out of her shell without suitable goat companions.
Jemima spent some time in a stable with a friendly goat so she could learn to trust us and after a short time, she joined the main goat herd in the big paddock! She now comes ZOOMING over with everyone else in the hopes of yummy offerings.
She is very curious and wants to trust you, but she's been given every reason not to trust humans before she came to us. She responds well to calm, kind voices and gets excited when you offer her snacks.
Jemima needs to be adopted with at least 2 goat friends if you don't have goats at home - we can recommend who Jem will be most happy with. She has a submissive nature, so no scary, dominating companions for this girl!
Jemima will come come vaccinated, microchipped, lice treated, hoof trimmed and wormed. We can also assist with transport for the cost of fuel.
Medical notes
Jemima has a floppy, little left ear. When investigated by a vet, it was discovered that Jemima does not have an ear drum in that ear! It is unknown if this was a congenital defect or an old trauma however it does not affect her health in any way and needs no further medical investigation.
Adoption details
Regardless of the breed of animal you are looking to adopt, our adoption process is the same.
The first step of the process involves submitting an adoption application form. The form helps us understand a little bit more about you and your household and is used to figure out whether animal is the right fit for your household and what you are looking for, and also if your household is the right fit for the animal.
After a review process, shortlisted applicants will be contacted by one of our volunteer adoption coordinators usually by phone call or message. This is an informal conversation to discuss any questions we may have about the application and re-confirm any information provided. It is usually at at this point that we will organise a Meet & Greet with you and the animal.
It is a Strong Heart’s adoption policy to arrange a Meet & Greet with the prospective family and the animal before finalising the adoption. The Meet & Greet will allow the opportunity to visit the animal and have a pat and a play with them. The foster carer will tell you a bit about the animal's personality and what they have been like for the time they’ve been in their care. It is a great opportunity to ask the carer about the animals food, sleeping and any other health requirements.
If the Meet & Greet goes well on the day, in most cases you will be able to take the animal home straight away after payment of the adoption fee. All necessary paperwork including vet work history and transfer of ownership information will be sent via email within a few days unless otherwise specified.
