About Dorian
This big, chubby cheeked and handsome lad is looking for a loving home to enjoy his senior years.
After surviving many years fending for himself on the streets, Dorian is now making the most of being a cat of leisure. Though he looks battle-worn and grumpy, he's a very sweet boy underneath the bruiser-boofhead exterior, and actually quite a sook these days.
He's an affectionate and loving lad, who enjoys a good snuggle on the couch and sleeping beside his people in bed, and even enjoys playing despite his senior age. He is typically well-mannered, though he can be stubborn. He would be ideally suited to someone who is unable to work from home during the day, as he is quite independent, though he does enjoy the company of his humans.
Dorian would be okay with a smaller and well-mannered, calm cat, but does not do well around large male cats, as they make him very anxious. He is not fond of dogs and while he is tolerant of children, he would be best in a home without young children. He is used to being around small animals such as chickens and guinea pigs without problem, but is known to catch mice.
Dorian is a very large and sometimes wilful boy who can forget how big and strong he is, so he needs humans who are confident in handling him and not letting him get his way when it isn't suitable, and he responds well to someone who is firm and confident.
As a large, neutered male, Dorian needs to be fed a wet food diet, and we would prefer to see him remain on a balanced raw diet, as he is thriving on this diet.
Although Dorian is very street savvy, for his own safety and well-being, he needs to be either an indoors-only cat or have access to a catio or enclosed yard to enjoy outdoor time.
Medical notes
Dorian is FIV+ but at this time is very healthy. FIV does not prevent him from sharing a home with another cat that he is get along with. At this time it is not active and is not causing him any health issues. Being FIV+ does mean that it is important to act swiftly at any sign of ill health, as FIV+ cats may deteriorate faster without treatment of their illness.
Dorian has had a number of teeth removed when he arrived into care, including two of his canine teeth that were broken. His age is estimated based on his size and condition on arrival into care as a mature adult.
Dorian has recently receive a round of cartrophen injections to help with standard age related stiffness and pain.
