About Toby
Toby is a gorgeous 1 year old Groodle who hasn’t had the best start to life. He is very unsure of the world and is just starting to learn about household noises and activities. He is very unsure of the TV and prefers to sit outside when it is on (at very low volume for now while he gets used to it).
He has met and interacted with his foster carer’s old Ragdoll cat and has shown no focussed interest or aggression.
He appears to be toilet trained, has not had any accidents inside with open access to the back yard. He sleeps in a crate at night and, although you to need to encourage him to go in at the start, he settles very quickly. It’s a safe space for him while he learns how to be a member of the family.
He has been left alone with his canine foster sister for a couple of times, up to 7 hours at a time, with no major issues. He takes a bit to settle but is content to sleep most of the day away.
We are currently working on lead training and getting out for some very short walks. Cars and people make him nervous.
He is being fed three times a day while he gains some condition as he is a little underweight.
Toby appears to have a preference for female companionship so is best suited to a home where a female would be his primary caregiver, although it will do him well to be in the company of kind, patient men as well. Toby would be better suited to a home where someone is home more often than not and would thrive with the companionship of a confident, friendly canine friend. A quieter household with no young children is a must for Toby.
As he is currently going through adolescence and is a very shy boy, he requires an experienced dog owner to help bring out the best in him and set him up for success. He needs a very gentle hand to bring him out of his shell. He has warmed up very quickly to his foster mum but is still very unsure about his foster dad and any visitors to the house.
Toby is not a low shed Groodle and requires daily brushing in order to keep the double coat (more like a Golden Retriever coat) tangle free and beautiful. He is great being brushed and it’s a good way to form a close bond with him.
