Adoption enquiry system - The Matchmakers Project
At present, all pet enquiries made via the PetRescue website are sent directly to the respective rescue organisation caring for the pet. And we know that more than 60% of enquiries made in 2015 did not receive a response from the rescue group or shelter within 72 hours. Many didn’t receive a response at all. And this is often because staff and volunteers at rescue groups and shelters have limited resources and can’t cope with the sheer volume of work involved in managing the pets in their care, let alone responding to adoption enquiries.
Our solution is to invest in technology to lighten the load for rescue organisations, improve the experience for all potential pet adopters and find the right home for pets faster. By drawing on our learnings from Carsales and Airbnb, we will develop a new adoption enquiry management system that’s faster, more efficient and, most importantly, more responsive.
Mobile website and app development
In 2015, more than 60% of all traffic to the PetRescue website was via mobile devices. That’s 1.89 million Australians who are looking for a pet via mobile. However, the PetRescue mobile website is still very basic and the existing PetRescue app is in desperate need of a rebuild. To ensure more rescue pets find their forever home quicker, we urgently need to get rescue pets mobile in 2016 by bringing all pet search functionality to the mobile website and rolling out a new app to both Apple and Android.
Pound engagement program
Following the launch of our Safe & Sound Pounds program in 2015, we have been working behind the scenes to engage and support pounds in developing direct-from-pound adoption programs with the assistance of PetRescue’s free online tools. We will also be attending the annual AIAM (Australian Institute of Animal Management) conference to talk directly with the rangers and decision makers within Australia’s pounds.
Increase the life-saving capacity of rescue groups
While engaging more pounds in establishing their own adoption programs, we must also focus on building and strengthening the life-saving capacity of our rescue group members in order to realise our vision of saving the lives of every pet left unclaimed in Australia’s pounds. Our rescue groups provide foster homes for thousands of pets who would not survive in the pound system. Young unweaned litters of puppies and kittens, sick and injured pets, seniors and special needs cases requiring care, or pets needing behavioral training - they all stand a better chance in the hands of a foster carer.
Our plan is to assist new and existing rescue group members to nurture and grow their network of foster carers by promoting foster opportunities to our online community of 100,000+ fans and followers, growing a nation-wide community of engaged foster carers and sending email alerts and SMS notifications to all enlisted foster carers when a new foster is listed in their specified location.
