Among all the quirks that our feline friends have; their aversion to cucumbers is a particularly fascinating one!
Why are cats afraid of cucumbers?
A cucumber’s shape resembles a certain slitherer that cats aren’t too fond of 🐍 …
Even though your cat may have never seen or interacted with a snake in their life, they are naturally hardwired to be wary of certain animals whom they may consider a threat; one of them being snakes.
Vegetables (or even objects) that resemble snakes such as cucumbers could startle your cat if they appeared out of nowhere, or at the very least pique their curiosity.
Can they still eat cucumbers?
Yes! As long as cucumbers are nicely cut up into bite-sized (and not snake-shaped 😉) pieces and given in moderation, they are safe to feed cats. Since cucumbers are mostly made up of water, they are a good way to keep your cat hydrated, and are also a good source of molybdenum which is crucial to their metabolism. They contain tons of Vitamin K, which can help keep their livers healthy as it helps with blood clotting.
