Thank you for wanting to give a home to Sydney's lost and abandoned animals; we truly appreciate your efforts to support our animal welfare program.
We would like to start your adoption journey by addressing the key point of why there is a not for profit adoption centre in a pet shop. While the answer is complex and based on a number of serious animal welfare issues in it's simplest form can be summarised by the following quote;
'' ...The kill rate (in Australia) most quoted by those working in the area is about 250,000 (per year)".
The animals we have available for adoption are wonderful and will undoubtedly make great new family members ensuring we as a community can give them time, exposure and resources. We aspire to do this through your support.
Furever Pets has founded and operates a corporate fostering program in our pet shop in Lane Cove. We donate our services on a voluntary basis to help animals that are homeless through no fault of their own find a place to belong. We care for them until they find a permanent home through our community adoption program.
Our partner groups The Sydney Dogs and Cats Home and No Kill Pet Rescue retain 100% of every animals adoption fee and we pay the expenses involved in caring for the animals the same as any other foster carer would.
We do not take commission to cover our operating expenses, as like you, we believe our partner welfare groups deserve sustainable financial support to assist them in reaching their getting to zero euthanasia goals and assist the correction in the market of an over supply of animals being sold in pet shops and by unregistered back yard breeders each year.
Please carefully consider owning a pet is commitment both emotionally and financially which will greatly influence your lifestyle and routine.
Adoptions are done in a positive, friendly and familiar environment ensuring the whole family will have great memories of how they adopted their new four legged family member.
Furever Pets has an adoption process aligned with Sydney Dogs and Cats Home and No Kill Pet Rescue.
Everyone is welcome to apply to adopt an animal and in most cases the animals are able to go home with you that day.
In the event we receive more than one applicant the most suitable home will fall back on the individual welfare groups own policy.
You are welcome to decline participation in any part of the adoption process although please note this may affect your application.
Our goal is to help those within and surrounding our community first as we rely on them to continue to grow our animal welfare program though their support of our shop and services.
If you are outside this area you are welcome to adopt Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Cats and Kittens regardless of your residential location. In the event you wish to adopt a dog or puppy the process may take extra time as a home orientation is required. As we personally fund and volunteer our services to complete this part of the process we can not always reach your suburb therefore making you unable to adopt. As our program grows so hopefully will our ability to reach people across NSW.
All our animals for adoption have been Vet Checked, Micro chipped for Dogs and Cats, Treated for Flea's and Worms, Vaccinated in line with the policy of the welfare group for the animals age and species and all Cat, Kittens, Dogs and Cats have been de-sexed.
We offer a 2-week adoption trial for all animals and up to a 4-week adoption trial for dogs with special needs. In that time you are able to receive a full refund of the adoption fee minus any administration that may have applied.
All animals must be returned to the appropriate shelter into the care of a Vet within the 2-week trial period. We are unable to accept animals back to the shop as we do not have separate quarantined facilities required to care for them until they become available for re-adoption. We can however introduce you to a different animal that may fit better into your home environment.
We offer ongoing in store and telephone support, training, grooming and enrichment advice for the animals whole life. Our onsite Director of Adoptions with be with you each step of the way to ensure a smooth transition for you and your new pet.
