Lottie ~ Wolfhound X

Lottie is a beautiful 18 month old Wolfhound x girl who is an absolute smooch and is affectionate with everybody she encounters. She will sit at your feet and then flop herself over on her back to ask for a belly rub. Lottie is a smaller than many Wolfies - she has the softest eyes and a sweet temperament to match.

Lottie is well mannered and friendly towards dogs both big and small. She adores her foster brother who is a large mail Shepherd X – she plays with him all day and sleeps beside him. She would love to have a canine playmate in her new home who will be a good role model for her. She may also suit a family where there is someone working from home or at home during the day to spend time with her. Lottie has met a few children whilst out and about and has been friendly with them – she kindly accepts lots pats and hugs. She isn't boisterous or jumpy with them but is very affectionate so her new family would ideally have slightly older children who won’t be daunted by her love.

Lottie has learnt some polite manners whilst being in foster care - she will sit and wait for her dinner and will wait to be invited inside. She has nice behaviour when inside and is toilet trained. She sleeps inside on her doggy bed, however overnight she loves to sneak up on the lounge when no one is watching!

Lottie loves going out for walks and chooses to stick by your side the entire time. Her recall off leash is fantastic once she knows you - she will happily run around but will keep a keen eye on where you are. She is in foster care with a horse and shows little interest in him. She enjoys outings in the car and travels beautifully.

Lottie enjoys a good sized, grassy yard to run around in, she'll need 5 foot fencing to keep her safe and sound. She would enjoy a sandpit where you can hide treats for her to find.

Lottie is a gentle, sweet soul with so much love to give to her new family and truly deserves a special forever home to call her own.

For more information or to meet Lottie, please contact Jo on email jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com or 0427 695 104 (after business hours). Lottie is in foster care in Box Hill Sydney, NSW 2765 and is not available for adoption interstate.

Lottie's adoption fee is $350 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Buddy ~ 2yo German Shorthaired Pointer

Buddy is a stunningly handsome German Short-haired Pointer who is 2 years and 4 months old. He is playful, loves company, and loves being with his humans.

Buddy, being a working breed, is extremely intelligent, eager to please, and has loads of energy. He is in excellent health and loves being active.

Buddy will need exercising and a good run or long walk at least once a day, so would suit an active person, couple, family or a rural environment with good secure fencing. He came from a military family, and can easily tolerate a 5-10km run daily. Around the home he loves a good long game of fetch, and could be trained easily with food rewards.

Buddy was surrendered to DRN through no fault of his own, when his family was re-posted overseas. He comes from a home with older children, and given his size and energy levels would be better suited to a families with confident children over 10. Buddy used to love going on car trips with his family to weekend soccer games, and would socialize well with dogs of a similar size. He can be a bit reactive to dogs on walks however and would benefit from further socialisation. He does not particularly like cats or lizards, but is not bothered by loud noises, the vacuum cleaner or storms. He would suit being an only dog, or having another similar dog for company if a meet went well. He is very people oriented, and would prefer to be home with his humans. He was used to being home alone for a portion of each weekday, but would prefer someone home more often than not.

Buddy is quickly responding to lead retraining with his new Halti, and he would love some ongoing training to teach him not to pull, as he is a rather big fellow. He knows sit, fetch, responds to his name, and is learning come, down, stay and go.

Buddy usually sleeps outside in his kennel at night time, but loves inside time when his family is home, and will happily lounge on his bed. He has not had any accidents inside in the past.

For more information or to meet Buddy, please fill out the adoption questionnaire on our website, and contact his foster carers Ian or Melanie on 0466 690 673 or email your questionnaire to melanie.yeh@hotmail.com.

Buddy is in foster care in Adamstown, NSW (Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.

Buddy's adoption fee is $500 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all of our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Portia ~ Mastiff X

Hi I'm Portia and I'm a bubbly, happy-go-lucky Mastiff x who is almost 5 years old . I love people and enjoy introducing myself to new friends whenever I can. I'm cheeky as I'll jump up to give you a kiss on the face but I'm learning that it's more polite to say hi with all 4 of my paws on the floor.

Everyone thinks I'm part greyhound as I'm fast like one when I do zoomies around the yard - they laugh at my antics and say I'm a clown. Once I get over my excitement meeting you I will settle down and show you the sweet side of my personality. I love to sit for treats to show you I'm a good girl and enjoy receiving praise.

I'm currently in care with approximately 100 other dogs - I spent all of my time with my best mate Leo a Bull Arab . We slept together, ate together and played all day so I do bond closely to other dogs once I know them - I'm just unsure and scared at the start. The exciting news is that Leo has just been adopted to his furever home so now it's my turn to find my very own special family just like he has!

I would love a family who will spend time teaching me to live in a family home again as I've lived in a boarding facility with Leo for most of my life. I'll need to relearn my house manners - I'm so eager to please you and am treat focused so it won't take me long. Because I love to do zoomies my wish list includes a fenced grassed yard (6 foot colourbond) so I can run around like a rocket before chilling out with you for the day. I would also enjoy advanced training or agility to show off how clever I am.

I would suit a couple or single person who will spend time walking me or even train me to run with them. I love people of all ages, however I'd probably knock over toddlers with my playfulness so am best with teenagers or adults. I'm not suited to pocket pets or cats as I like to chase them. I would enjoy a home where I'm allowed inside when my family is home as I thrive in the company of my people.

If you have a special place in your heart for a big beautiful girl like Portia then please contact Jo on email jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com or phone 0427 695 104 (after business hours) . Portia is in foster care near Morriset, NSW (Central Coast)

Portia's adoption fee is $350 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Leo ~ Mastiff X

Hi, my name is Leo. I'm a 5 month old easy going puppy who loves cuddles and pats. I love being inside following my foster parents around the house. I love knowing what's going on at all times. I'm a lucky boy who gets to sleep at the end of the bed.

I love going for walks and am easy to walk on the lead. I already know sit and no. I'm getting better at wait, shake, touch and down. I'm almost fully toilet trained with only random accidents inside. If you remember to take me out every 2 hours I can even go on command.

I get along with my foster brother and love to play with him so other similar sized dogs are ok. I'm going to be a big boy so would need good fencing. I have not been around pocket pets or cats but I am ok around children.

If you are looking for a happy boy and have time to train me and love me. I would love to become part of your family.

For more information or to meet Leo, please contact his foster carer Stephanie on miaandfine@gmail.com. Leo is in foster care in Newcastle area, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.

Leo's adoption fee is $450 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Avalanche ~ Alaskan Malamute X Coolie

Introducing Avalanche - a 4 year old Alaskan Malamute x German Collie boy who is a delight to spend time with. Avalanche is an affectionate and smiley big boy who runs to you when called for a big hug. He will lean on your legs for pats and will give you kisses to show you his love.

This large, fluffy teddy bear is well-mannered and eager to please you. He sits and drops for treats and responds well to praise. He'd do well with advanced training as he is smart and attentive. He can zig zag on lead at the start of a walk but will walk nicely once his initial excitement over.

Avalanche is in foster care with many large dogs and gets along well with a lot of them . He'd do well in a single dog home , or with a friendly female canine companion who enjoys the company of other large, playful dogs.

Avalanche enjoys doing uncoordinated zoomies around the yard - he prances like a pony and can still bounce like a big puppy. He can jump up when playing but doesn't tend to jump on you. Due to his size he is best suited to kids older than 10 years or teenagers. He would also suit a single or couple who would love an adoring companion. Avalanche loves his humans and happily makes friends with any new people he meets.

Avalanche isn't overly energetic - he would love a daily walk and games in the yard however he doesn't need to be constantly entertained. Once he's had his walk and play he's happy to hang out with you in the yard or house. He's a wonderful balance of playful and relaxed and a pleasure to spend time with.

If you would like more information on Avalanche please contact Jo on email jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com . Avalanche is located near Morisset on the NSW Central Coast.

Boris ~ Friendly Wolfhound X Puppy

Boris is an 11 week old, male, brindle Wolfhound x puppy. Since coming into care Boris has shown himself to be a kind, cuddly pup who loves being around people. He loves spending time in the yard keeping his foster family company while they play and do yardwork.

Boris is a very healthy little puppy who has been raised in a home environment. He has been very well socialised with other puppies and adult dogs (small and large) and gets along well with them all. He's met lots of people and is friendly and affectionate with them. Boris is in care with cats and has not shown any interest in them.

Boris will grow up to be a large dog. He is responding very well to training and is learning to walk on a lead and sit. He is a fast learner and would love for his new family to take him to puppy preschool so he can learn even more. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training.

Boris has an older doggie foster sister who he adores and he would do well if his forever home had another dog as a playmate and companion for him. Boris's ideal family will have lots of time to spend with him. He will need to be allowed to come inside and be a part of family life. Boris will need regular exercise to help use all his puppy energy and will love learning new games.

Boris needs to be welcome inside when people are home, and to sleep inside at least until fully grown. He currently sleeps inside at night with his brother and settles well at bedtime. He will be wonderful family dog and is suitable for children 8 years and older. You need good fencing with no small gaps. He can't go to rural fencing (eg: mesh or wire).

Boris's brother Boston is also available for adoption.

As Boris is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because he'll need to be returned to our vet for desexing when he's approximately 5 months old.

For more information or to meet Boris, please phone his foster mum Fiona on 0408 295 137 or email fiona.hopping@uon.edu.au. Boris is in Singleton, NSW (west of Newcastle) and meet and greets will need to be in Singleton.

Boston is an 11 week old, male, brown and white Wolfhound x puppy. Boston loves playing with a ball and spending time in the yard with his foster family. He is extremely inquisitive and loves exploring. He has an outgoing, independent personality and would love a family who could take him for walks and make him a part of their activities.

Boston is a very healthy little puppy who has been raised in a home environment. He has been very well socialised with other puppies and adult dogs (small and large) and gets along well with them all. He's met lots of people and is friendly and affectionate with them.

Boston will grow up to be a large dog. He is a fast learner and would love for his new family to take him to puppy preschool so he can learn even more. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training.

His ideal new family will be able to spend lots of time with him teaching him new things, and understand the needs of a puppy. Boston’s new family could have another dog but his independent nature could also make him a happy only dog as long as his family spent lots of time with him. Despite his independence he still loves to know his family is there to give him cuddles, teach him new things and provide reassurance in new situations.

Boston needs to be welcome inside when people are home, and to sleep inside at least until fully grown. He currently sleeps inside at night with his brother and settles well at bedtime. No photo for Khan ~ Husky X

Khan ~ Husky X

Introducing Khan - a gorgeous, friendly almost 2 year old Siberian Husky x . We are unsure of Khan's exact breed mix - possibly German Shepherd with his huge radar ears, sleek coat and his goofy, floppy personality. Khan is a real tail wagger , he's a happy boy who wears a smile that will you make you smile too.

Khan is wonderful when meeting new people - he enjoys making new friends and will develop close relationships quickly. He's playful and just a little bit dopey which adds to his charm. He lopes and galavants around the yard like a big puppy and will flop himself at your feet or put his head on your lap for a pat. If you stop patting him he'll tap you with his paw to ask for more.

Khan walks nicely on lead and would enjoy a daily walk - he doesn't have a lot of stamina so he's not going to win any world records for distance however as long as he's with you he's happy with that. He can be a bit of an ambler with all the time in the world .

Khan enjoys treats and is gentle (and a little uncoordinated) when taking them. Being a young boy he still needs some work on his basic training - but he is willing to learn and loves praise so would thrive with further training. He is a big bouncy boy and can jump and mouth gently during play but he does respond well to fair and positive correction. Due to his size we'd suggest he's best with older, dog confident kids or teenagers.

Khan is in foster care with over 100 other dogs in a boarding facility. He has a few canine friends however he can be overly stimulated with so many other dogs - we would prefer he be adopted into a single dog family so that his own training can be the focus. Khan's perfect home would be one with a fenced and safe yard where he is allowed inside when his family is home and where he can sleep inside. He is a real people-dog so he would love to be included in family activities and outings.

For more information on adorable and friendly Khan please contact Jo on email jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com . Khan is located near Morisset on the NSW Central Coast.

Khan's adoption fee is $350 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, microchipping, flea and worm treatment. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Humphrey ~ Great Dane X Cattle Dog, 5 Months Old

Humphrey is a 5 month old Great Dane X cattle dog. He is a bundle of puppy fun, with a lot of love to give. He adores his human companions and is always excited to see them. He adjusts easily to a new environment. He has a favourite rope toy that he likes to chew, he also plays with a ball and likes to be chased around the yard. He is not a barker. Loves a belly rub!

Humphrey responds well to food rewards and is learning basic commands, such as sit, come, lay down and is learning to wait for his meals. We are teaching Humphrey to walk nicely on lead. He does get excited when seeing other people and dogs and tends pull towards them but we’re working on this with food rewards and I believe with consistent training he will become a delight to walk. He will benefit from someone who has time to train him or to take him to a positive reinforcement training class.

Humphrey needs a home where there is someone that doesn’t work full time because he thrives on being part of the family. He is sensitive and loves affection, so he must be allowed to spend time inside. He is not an “outside dog”. He is housetrained. He’s used to sleeping outside in the shed with blankets and a coat. It’s be terrific, but not required, if his adopter has some experience with large dogs. He is a big boy so not suitable to live with children under 6, cats or other dogs.

Humphrey is a very affectionate and cuddly boy who will bring you lots and lots of love and fun.

For more information or to meet Humphrey, please contact his foster carer Amanda on 0473 588 025 or email amanda.kiehne@outlook.com. Humphrey is in foster care in Hawks Nest, NSW (Port Stephens, north of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.

Ralph ~ Sweet Bull Arab X Puppy

Ralph is an 8 week old, male, Bull Arab x puppy. He’s an independent and quiet puppy, but likes to start the fun. He absolutely loves to snuggle.

Ralph is a very healthy little puppy who has been raised in a home environment. He has been very well socialised with other puppies and adult dogs (small and large) and gets along well with them all. He's met lots of people and is friendly and affectionate with them.

Ralph will grow up to be a large dog. We always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training. Ralph is slowing starting to learn basic manners and does respond really well to a firm NO or UHH. While he can be crazy over food, we are teaching him to sit and wait. Toilet training is under way as well.

It would be a big plus if you have a friendly adult dog as a teacher, companion and playmate for Ralph. If you don't have another dog to keep him company, then there needs to be someone in the household that doesn't work full time.

Ralph needs to be welcome inside when people are home, and to sleep inside at least until fully grown. Ralph and his sister Rosee currently sleep indoors in a crate together and are clean overnight. Boss is a 4 year old mastiff, an energetic, loving bundle of joy! Boss is a large sized dog, he has a sweet puppy face and a nice shiny coat!

Boss loves human interaction very much. He is sweet natured and loving and always keen for a pat or belly rub and would love nothing more than to curl up at your feet! A great family dog and terrific with children of all ages; previously lived with several young children he isn't a jumper and responses well to instructions

Boss would be suitable as an only dog or with another friendly dog, he is dog friendly but as a little timid needs to take time with new dogs/people. he is easily pleased to lay around and be a lap dog or to have a bit of a wrestle with a play mate, he is very shy and is learning that new people are ok, boss is very much a gentle giant & a big sook loves to give his human lots of affection through cuddles and kisses, yet is a great gaurd dog!

Boss knows all his commands and listens really well, boss is a very smart dog and is getting more out of his shell everyday which is a pleasure to see how much of an amazing nature he has!

Boss can pull fairly strongly on the lead, however only at the beginning of a walk and soon settles down.

He does well at sitting for meals and putting on lead but needs a few more lessons so would need a confident leader

Boss travels well loves to have the wind on his face out the window. Boss is a strong dog but also a total sook!

Boss is used to being an outside dog and is happy with a warm safe place to lay around and sleep yet loves to be aloud in side to be at his humans side.

Millie ~ Great Dane X

The beautiful Millie - Foster carer or adoption needed!

Millie is a 10 month old Great Dane Cross with a beautiful personality. She is a gentle giant!

Millie is wonderful with children and is not aggressive at all, she responds very gently and affectionately towards them however due to her size and strength; she could accidentally knock a small child over in excitement so a family with children 10 years and older would be perfect. She is very friendly with people and is eager to please. Millie would love to be included in family life and spend time inside with them when possible. She currently sleeps outside.

Millie loves to play with a thick knotted rope, her favourite thing to keep her entertained when in the yard. She doesn’t like to spend all day by herself and tends to dig and chew plants if she is lonely and bored. A big meaty bone would help entertain her as well as her thick rope of course! She wouldn’t suit a family that works long hours.

Millie loves a walk, she enjoys getting out and about visiting new places - absolutely loves swimming at the beach. Due to her size, Millie needs a walking harness as she is a strong girl and will pull just on a lead. She has been to a number of dog parks and happily plays with other friendly dogs. She is currently an only dog but wouldn’t mind a play mate. Millie hasn’t been exposed to cats and pockets pets so unsure how she would go with them.

Millie hasn’t had any formal training but can sit, stay and will come when called. She is such a smart girl that she would benefit from any training that you could give her. She hasn’t been allowed inside much so would need guidance in the toilet training department as well. She gets excited when around her owners, just so happy to see them. Giving her lots os love and attention will settle her down. Millie loves food so this will help with training.

Millie would love a family with teenage kids to play with or an active couple willing to give her the time and patience she needs to improve her training. She is located at Soldiers Point (Newcastle area).

If you are interested in meeting Millie to foster or adopt, this can be arranged by contacting Sharron on 0423 331 057 or email sstudley3@bigpond.com

Millie's adoption fee is $450 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

No photo for Tink ~ Border Collie X Mastiff, Girl, 1yo

Tink ~ Border Collie X Mastiff, Girl, 1yo

Hi. My name is Tink and I’m a 1 year old, female, Border Collie x Mastiff. I turned 1 on the day Dog Rescue Newcastle broke me out of the pound, what a birthday present! I am a very shy girl around new people but I truly shine once I settle in. My foster carer thinks I’m just a huge cuddly ball of fluff!

I am said to be good with dogs my own size, as when I was at the pound I was sharing an enclosure with a friend of mine. I have not been around other dogs much whilst in foster care but I have not shown any aggression towards other dogs when I am on a walk or getting a bath at the shops. My foster carer is not sure how I am with cats or pocket pets as they don’t have any.

I don’t fret while my foster carers are at work as they leave me occupied with treats and toys spread around the yard. I haven’t made any attempt to dig or jump my way out. When they come home from work they let me inside and give me the biggest cuddles and kisses.

I think I am spoilt for choice on where I can sleep. I’ve resorted to sleeping on my foster carers’ bed and they just let me sleep there. Can you believe that? In the middle of the night I will sneak back to my bed though, which is located at the foot of their bed just so they can sleep comfortably for the rest of the night. I have learnt “on your bed” for times when I take up too much space and need to go to my own bed. My foster carers also have a kennel for me in the yard so when I want to snooze while they’re at work I can.

I am toilet trained, however I am still learning that when my foster carer says “wee wee”, it’s time to go to the toilet. Otherwise my foster carers take me outside quite often and watch me sniff for a good spot to do my business. I am not a nuisance barker. I playfully bark if you suddenly stop playing with me or if someone comes into the yard or front of the house that you haven’t invited.

I travel well in the car. I love my walks. I pull on the lead a little but my carer is training me not to. I have learnt to wait on my mat until dinner is ready. I would really like my new human(s) to continue training me to have good habits. I like a good game of fetch and chasey around the yard with my humans! When I am all tired out though I would just rather push my bum against you for pats. A gentle reminder that if you start you better not stop!

I understand “sit”, “on your bed”, “mine”, “stay”, “come”, and a clap for when I do something they don’t like. I am working on “wee wee”, “shake” and “drop”. My ideal home would be where my new family can give me lots of attention and reinforce what I am currently learning. If my new parents work during the day I would like them to take me for a walk in the morning so when they leave me I won’t get bored. I’d be fine living with another dog if you have one.

Rosie ~ Mastiff X

Introducing Rosie – a 1 and a half year old Mastiff x girl who is a total sweetheart. Rosie has big doe eyes and a soft grey coat - she loves people of all ages and is happy to meet new people with a wag of her tail and a smile.

Rosie is a sleek and tall girl which just means there is more of her to love. She is a softie, and a bit of a lapdog who enjoys affection and will give you gentle licks on your hand to show her love.

Rosie is dog friendly, child friendly and has been exposed to a cat with little reaction. She would do well with an active family with older children or teenagers to play with, or a home with a friendly, adult canine companion. She has been in foster care with 2 children under 5 years and she was very gentle with them – she shakes paws with them and enjoy their pats.

Rosie loves treat rewards and will shake your hand and take them gently when offered. She is strong on lead due to excitement and her interest in her surroundings - but with some training and a daily routine this should settle.

Rosie responds best when she has consistency and routine - a daily walk or run (she would suit a jogger) and play time in a secure yard (with 6 foot fencing) would be her perfect day. She would love a home where she is included as a family member and she's allowed inside with her people and able to sleep inside on her own bed. She won't suit being a yard only dog as she loves people too much - she wants to be with her favourite people - you! Rosie is still very much a cheeky puppy (albeit a big one!) so she'll enjoy being entertained with bones, chews or puzzle toys and daily activities to keep her fit and healthy. She would do well at group dog-training classes or being trained to do dog sports like agility.

For more information or to meet the lovely Rosie, please contact Rebecca by email beccastar78@hotmail.com or 0425 250 889. Rosie is in foster care near Charlestown, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle).

Rosie's adoption fee is $350 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Arlo ~ Red Cattle X

Arlo is a 7 month old Cattle Dog X, large breed. Arlo is one year old and just a big, BIG puppy, around 35kg. He is sooky, attention seeking, a bit of a boofhead and very loving.

Arlo likes to be the centre of attention, if one of his foster siblings is receiving attention, he will push them out of the way. He loves having his head and ears massaged and if you forget what you are doing, he will remind you by pawing you or lifting your hand with his muzzle.

Arlo will sit, shake hands, drop and wait for the OK to eat. He tends to be a very excitable and very happy dog. Arlo needs a human who will put the time and effort into training him to be the great dog he can be. Because of Arlo’s size and energy he would be better suited to a family with older children (that tail can be a lethal weapon when it starts wagging).

He loves going for a walk, short car rides to the beach for a paddle and he doesn’t even mind going to the vets. Arlo is getting very good at chasing and retrieving a ball. Arlo has not been tested with pocket pets. Arlo sleeps outside but spends some time inside which he really enjoys. I would not say he is toilet trained but he has had no accidents.

Arlo will need chew toys or otherwise he will find your socks (loves my socks) or the toilet roll a great alternative, cheeky boy. Everything is just a big game to Arlo and you cannot help but love and laugh at his antics. Patience and lots of it will be needed because I think Arlo is going to stay puppyish for a long time.

For more information or to meet Arlo, please contact Donna on 0466 099 426 or email trudgetty@hotmail.com. Arlo is in foster care in Tanilba Bay, NSW (Port Stephens) and is available for adoption interstate.

Arlo's adoption fee is $450 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Apollo ~ 2yo Loving Mastiff X Wolfhound Boy

Apollo is a playful, approximately 2 year old Mastiff x Wolfhound boy. He is the most lovable friendly dog I've ever come across. He just absolutely loves people and other dogs.

Apollo comes when called and is very submissive to people. I have not seen one ounce of aggression or any body language that would indicate he may be aggressive. I have taken him down to the river with our two dogs. He has not tried to dominate them in any way - all he wants to do is play. He has also met our cats and was fine with them. He was apparently surrendered to the pound initially due to chasing alpacas.

I help Gunnedah Veterinary Clinic who has a rescue/rehome program for dogs and cats from the pound. They have been able rehome all of their dogs in the past - however this boy has had no interest so far and I dare say it's due to his size and breed and his time is getting shorter and shorter as they cannot keep them for long periods. Some dogs here are renowned for being a little crazy and full on. However Apollo is the opposite – he is playful, friendly and loving.

Even though he is located in Gunnedah, I travel between here and the Gold Coast quite often. So if a home is found between there and here (anywhere in the New England/Warwick/mid-north NSW coast regions) I will be more than happy to deliver him. If we didn't already have 2 dogs in our yard, or if I owned my own house I'd love to keep him myself.

For more information about Apollo, please contact Nikki on 0428 888 921. Apollo is in care in Gunnedah, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.

Apollo's adoption fee is $300 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, and microchipped. You can see all of our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Wilson ~ 6mo Wolfhound X Boxer Boy

Introducing the adorable and unique Wilson! - a 6 month old Wolfhound x Boxer boy. Wilson is a big, goofy, placid puppy with a relaxed and easy going nature. He is a pleasure to look after with his playful antics and chilled personality.

Wilson just wants to follow you around like a shadow and loves nothing better than falling asleep on your lap on the lounge. He loves company and is not a dog to leave in your backyard. He is everybody’s friend and gets on well with children and other dogs. He is currently living with a Labrador and they adore each other as they have a similar temperament and energy levels.

Wilson is very well behaved for a puppy, but will still chew and dig in the garden if he gets bored. Distracting him with toys and further training will help. He is very smart and easy to train and just wants to please. He is mostly toilet trained, will sit and wait quietly for his dinner and is not a jumper. He does fancy himself as a watch dog and will bark but is not at all intimidating.

Wilson loves going out for walks and travelling in the car. He needs regular outings to stimulate his mind and a daily walk to let off some energy. He can be shy and unsure in new circumstances, but learns quickly and will always come when he is called.

Wilson would be ideally suited to a family that will incorporate him into their daily lives and have him in the home. He does need company so would suit an adult that is home more often than not and he would be a great companion for another dog. He will grow in to a large dog and needs high secure fences to keep him safe.

If you are after a gentle, loving and faithful companion then Wilson is the puppy for you.

For more information or to meet Wilson, please contact his foster mum Lucy on 0434 430 720 or lucyhollard@idl.com.au. Wilson is located in Whitebridge, NSW (Newcastle area) and is available for adoption interstate.

Wilson's adoption fee is $450 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all of our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Kira ~ Great Dane X

Meet Kira, a 4.5 year old Great Dane X who is looking for her forever home. If you love dogs that are big and people loving, then Kira is your girl.

Kira responds very well to positive reinforcement training. She already knows “sit” and her foster mum is working on “stay”. She is house-trained, travels well in the car and is great on the lead.
Kira can be timid at first when meeting new people but soon she warms up to them, especially when offered a lot of pats. She would however prefer to be an only dog as she can be nervous around other dogs (especially the smaller ones).

Kira is very well behaved inside and would spend all her time inside if she could. When you let her in she might even try hopping on the couch to have a chat as she is a quite talkative dog. Kira is not a digger and she currently sleeps inside. She loves children but would be best suited with children over the age of 10 as she can sometimes be too energetic for them. Kira isn't a nuisance barker but she will let you know how excited she is when you come home from work.

Kira loves human company and is dreaming of a home where she could be part of the family. She is a beautiful dog with the most endearing nature.

For more information or to meet Kira, please contact her foster carers Kylie and Indy on 0408536812 (text only) or email indy0six@gmail.com. Kira is in foster care in Macquarie Hills, NSW and is available for adoption interstate. Kira's adoption fee is $350 and she is vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

No photo for Charm ~ 3yo Great Dane X Girl

Charm ~ 3yo Great Dane X Girl

Charm is an affectionate 3-year-old Great Dane X girl. She has a gorgeous tiger-striped brindle coat and very longing eyes. Charm is a real people oriented girl who loves being with her family whatever they are doing. She loves to explore nature and adores her daily walk.

Charm is very good with children but would be best suited to children over 10 years of age as she can get over excited when playing. She gets on well with both big and small dogs but dislikes cats and birds. Charm loves to play tug, running and being chased. Her favourite toys are sticks and balls but she is happy doing anything as long as she is with her family.

Charm is a bit of a snuggler and likes to spend time in the lounge room on her bed or next to you on the lounge if invited. She can use a dog door and is house trained. Charm is extremely well behaved indoors and will follow you around or find a comfy place to have a snooze. She is happy to sleep all night indoors in her crate or on a comfy bed. On warmer nights, she has been sleeping happily on the deck.

Charm has been surrendered, (due to no fault of her own), and is used to being part of a very loving family. She is currently living happily with two other dogs, a retriever and a Labrador. Charm can sit for her food and is learning how to wait. She walks well on lead and can walk past excitable dogs without a bother.

Charm’s perfect home would be with an active single, couple or family with older children. Due to her size she may knock over toddlers when excited (She is smaller than a Great Dane but taller than a Labrador). Her new family will need to be prepared to continue with training as she is a large dog and will need a home where she is allowed to be indoors and part of the family. Charm can get a little anxious when left outdoors alone and may cry. She would be okay with another doggie friend to play with but would probably be best suited as an only dog as long as she isn’t left alone for extended periods. Her family will also have to be prepared to feed her a high-quality diet as she does appear to have some allergies to plants & red meat. She will require a moderate to large yard with 5-6 foot fences due to her size.

Charm is a delightful girl and it is easy to fall in love with her. She is a gentle soul and can be quite timid at first but once comfortable loves to play. Charm loves to sidle up to you for a pat & will even try to sit on your lap. Does Charm sound like the right girl for you?

If you are interested in adopting/meeting Charm please email an application form to her foster carer, Michelle at michelle.jackson@live.com.au or for more information call on 0422 652 530. Charm is located in Cessnock, 40 minutes North-West of Newcastle. Charm is not available for interstate adoption.

Charm’s adoption fee is $350 and includes desexing, microchipping, vaccinations, worm and flea treatments and life-time registration. You can see all of our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Mya ~ German Shepherd X Cattle Dog

Hi, my name is Mya and I am a 15 month old German Shepherd x Cattle Dog girl. I am very friendly, energetic and inquisitive. I love to socialise and love water, the beach and parks!

I love having a big back yard with lots of toys to play with. I like playing tug with my friends - as much as I am playful, I am quite comfortable laying around chewing or playing with a toy. I absolutely love playing in water and have greatly enjoyed chasing and wrestling with my foster sister in the yard. I am a fantastic jumper and I will need a very secure yard to keep me safe.

I am very proud of the obedience skills I have learnt such as sit and down and I am going great with my lead training, but I’m looking forward to further training. I am used to coming inside and laying down of an evening and love being part of the family. I need a loving home who will continue my training and make me feel loved.

I get very excited around people and jump a lot, but I am learning that this is not OK and instead I should sit to greet people. While I love kids, I can be a bit too energetic and excited so I would be best suited to older kids.

I need a family who has the time to exercise me regularly, and perhaps has another dog to play with as I get lonely if I am left on my own for long periods. I am not suited for a home with cats, birds or chickens.
I have a lot of love to give, and need the perfect family to share my love with. I am such an affectionate dog and can't wait to find my forever home!

For more information or to meet Mya, please contact Donna on 0466 099 426 or email trudgetty@hotmail.com. Mya is in foster care in the Newcastle area, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.

Delilah ~ Labrador X Kelpie

Delilah is an extremely beautiful and clever 7-year-old Labrador X Kelpie who is looking for a caring and loving forever home.

Delilah is a happy and healthy girl and once she gets to know you, is adorably cuddly and affectionate. Delilah is moderately active and enjoys her daily walk. She walks well on lead but can pull a little, as she’s just so excited to go! Delilah is house trained and has basic obedience training, understanding the commands ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘drop’, ‘come’ and ‘shake’.

Delilah is not a barker or a jumper, but as she is a large dog, she is not suitable for a home with young children as she may knock them over. She would be most suited to a single or couple household, or one with older children.

Delilah currently sleeps inside at night but happily stays outside during the day when her foster mum and dad are at work. Delilah loves playing fetch, even bringing the ball back to you for another go! Her favourite thing to do is cuddle up on the couch with her humans and snuggle her head onto you for a sleep.

Delilah can be a little apprehensive when meeting new people-especially men. In saying that, as soon as she begins to trust you (which will take no time) she will be your best friend for the rest of her life. Her new family would ideally be experienced dog owners who are understanding of this and are willing to give her a little time to adjust to them.

Delilah will come when called and won’t bolt out the door if you tell her to stay. Delilah lived with another dog for most of her life, but doesn’t always get along with other canine companions. She would prefer a home without cats or pocket pets.

Delilah is such a loving and gentle soul once you get to know her and would make a very special member of the family. She can’t wait to find a forever home that understands her needs and will love her just as much as she’ll love them!

For more information or to meet Delilah, please email foster carer Elke at elke.lanzon@gmail.com or call on 0431 304 614. Delilah is in foster care in Singleton Heights, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.
