VIC - Lort Smith Animal Hospital are seeking a Foster Carer

They are seeking: Foster carers needed for Shelter animals

FOSTER CARE PROGRAM

The Lort Smith Animal Hospital takes care of surrendered and stray animals that members of the public bring in to the Hospital. These animals are vet checked and temperament assessed before being available for adoption.

WHO NEEDS FOSTER CARE?
Most of the animals requiring foster care are kittens and adult cats.
Sometimes we have a mum and kittens which need fostering, less often we will have injured animals that need fostering. We also require dog foster carers and we may also have some underage puppies needing some care.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A FOSTER CARER?
Animals going out to foster care need a safe, secure loving temporary home.

Kitten requirements
Kittens need to be regularly fed and kept in a clean environment. The socialisation of the kittens is equally as important as their physical environment. This means the kittens need lots of handling and exposure to different noises, people, surfaces etc. Kittens learn the most during the first 9 weeks of life and proper socialisation will ensure the kitten grows up without behavioural problems.

Injured animal requirements
These requirements will vary depending on the injury the animal has sustained. For example a dog recovering from a fractured leg will have different needs than a cat recovering from a tail amputation. If you are interested fostering injured animals we will discuss each animal and their needs with you individually.

Dog requirements
A secure yard - big or small is fine –and the area should be free of poisonous weeds such as wandering dew. The foster care coordinator can give more advice on dog requirements during the application process

We especially require people who are willing to take on cage confinement dogs, and also timid dogs.

Our emergency boarding animals sometimes need some time out from the shelter, so people willing to foster these owned animals are greatly appreciated!!

Permanent foster care is very important in the shelter, as this often spares the lives of our cats and dogs who have been in the shelter for the entire 28 days period allowed. The cats and dogs are kept in foster care until we can match them with an adopter... this could be short term or long term.

WHAT WILL THE HOSPITAL PROVIDE?
The Lort Smith Animal Hospital will provide all food, bedding, litter trays, bowls and toys for your fostered animal. We will also provide unlimited advice and support and all veterinary care.

The Foster Carer will be responsible for collecting the animal, returning the animal to the hospital for weekly check ups, feeding, cleaning, socialising and caring for the animal and contacting the coordinator if the animal is unwell.

Foster carers looking after injured animals will be provided with all medication, care information and confinement cages if required.

WHAT IF MY FOSTERED ANIMALS GET SICK?
Young kittens do get sick, a very common illness is cat flu, which is extremely contagious to cats. If any fostered animals develop any unusual symptoms they must be returned to the Hospital immediately. Foster carers will be able to phone and get advise from the Foster Care Coordinator or from any of our vet nursing staff, with availability from 8am to midnight every day of the year.

All our animals are very precious to us and we appreciate the time and commitment volunteers will be making to ensure these animals get the very best chance at a new life.

For further information or queries please call the cattery on 9321 7240, or the kennels on 9321 7260

Please contact Lort Smith Shelter on 93217240 - or email - if you can help with this request.

NSW - Northern Rivers Animal Services Inc are seeking a Volunteer

They are seeking: Op Shop

Northern Rivers Animal Services run two op shops to fund the work they do to help the abandoned, abused, lost and unwanted companion animals.
One shop is in Lismore the other in Ballina.
Both shops are always in need of volunteers who have a general interest in the running of shops, and enjoy knowing that the work they are doing is helping animals in need.

Please contact Robyn on 02 6681 1860 - or email - if you can help with this request.

WA - The Animal Protection Society of WA Inc are seeking a Volunteer

They are seeking: volunteers to help care for the dogs and cats

We are a refuge for abandoned cats and dogs, situated at 27
Talbot Road, Southern River, WA. We are in need of volunteers to help care for the dogs and cats who come into our care. We need kind caring people, who have a love of animals, to attend the Refuge for a couple of hours one morning a week (or more if you have free time) from 8.30am. We need help with cleaning the kennels and we need the same help with the catteries....and you would meet some very fine people too, enjoy a cuppa after you have finished the work...and enjoy a chat with the other vollies but more importantly you would have greatly helped the dogs and cats live in a clean, healthy environment. And they would also receive some time with you too...also so very important to their well being.

We do need people to walk the dogs, which can be done any day from 8.30am to 2pm....just half an hour of your time if that is all you have - we would appreciate it and so would the dogs....but the temperature does have to be below 28 degrees for them to be taken out.

We also require people to assist the Carer of the day in the afternoons...help with the final cleaning up, feeding and bedding down. A special time of the day, watching them bed down and being able to give them a cuddle and send them off to sleep...agh.

Another position available is for Carers. These good people are in charge on "their" day or "their" half day. To be a Carer you would again need to have a love of animals, in particular of course, dogs and cats. You would answer the telephone, liaise with customers, liaise with volunteers on "your" day or half day, help with the cleaning if necessary, help prepare the food, and, in general, be in charge of the welfare of our furry inhabitants. It is a most rewarding position and on site training will be provided. For further information on this position please telephone Kerry White (Head Dog Carer) if you are interested in a Dog Carer volunteer position, or Gail Heazle (Head Cat Carer) if you are interested in the Cat Carer volunteer position. You would need to be of a mature age.

Telephone 9398 6616 any day between 10am and 3pm to find out more on how you can help, or call by in person any day of the week to have a look and meet the Carers and volunteers on that day.
