PetRescue's success has been in creating a site where potential adopters feel comfortable and happy visiting to search for their new pet. In order to maintain a high level of quality in our pet listings, PetRescue members must adhere to the following listing requirements.
Not permitted on PetRescue
Terms such as "death row", "urgent" and "she hasn't got much time" or graphic details of past abuse actually turn potential adopters away from rescue as the emotions invoked start to be that of sadness and helplessness, rather than empowerment and excitement about getting a rescue pet.
The following details are not permitted in a pet listing:
- An expected euthanasia date
- Negatively emotive references such as URGENT, DEATH ROW or those that imply the person should hurry; "please rush", "save him", "she doesn't have much time", etc.
- Suggested positive replacement terms include "be <pets name>'s hero" or "if you can offer <pets name> a great home, please contact us".
- The overuse of CAPITAL LETTERS (this is read as yelling!)
- Graphic details of past abuse or comments regarding previous owners
- Links to external retail/commercial websites (please contact us directly if you would like to purchase advertising space on PetRescue)
Pound Pet Listing Requirements
As adopting from pounds is a difference experience for adopters than being guided by a shelter or rescue group, we have the following requirements for all pound pets listed on PetRescue. This aims to help people understand the differences between pounds and rescue so they are able to make an informed decision when adopting.
Any member listing for a pound is required to use the following text guidelines in all of their pound listings.
[NAME OF ANIMAL]
Should be either a name, or name and impound number. Terms like "urgent", "death row" or other emotive terms are not acceptable.
[DESCRIPTION OF ANIMAL]
Text should be included here of the pets temperament (if known) and potential requirements for their new home.
Then, the following information must be included in the listing;
This animal is located in <NAME OF POUND>. To ensure that this pet will be suitable for your family, we advise that you read our pound information page at http://petrescue.com.au/information_library/information_for_pet_owners/adoption/638
The <NAME OF POUND> offers a desexing, microchipping and lifetime registration package before adoption. (Edit to suit your state and pounds requirments - all pets listed on PetRescue must be desexed prior to adoption.)
Contact details (including website link if applicable) for the pound.
All PetRescue listings are moderated and listings in breach of these rules will be removed and the groups membership revoked.
If you have any questions about these listing requirements, please get in touch with us to discuss.
