More information about CSS (Cat Sterilisation Society)

The Society was established, and incoprorated in 1989. This was due to concerns that thousands of cats and kittens were killed at cat refuges, or abandoned when the females became pregnant. Sterilisation not euthanasia is the answer to animal welfare. We are a volunteer, not-for-profit charity and do not receive state or federal government funding. We are funded entirely by the hard work of our members ( several have been involved the entire 21 years of the organsisation) who setup stalls in shopping centres. We are also helped by donations, bequests and grants. A committee is elected by members and is responsible for; the operation and management of the society organising fund raising events lobbying council and state governments for the protection of cats applying for grants to Lotterywest, councils and business submissions to councils to ensure their bylaws do not impact adversely on cat ownership Working with 35 veterinarians throughout the metropolitan area, the society provides financial help for cat owners to sterilise their cat. Reducing the numbers of kittens born each season helps in ensuring they all find a good home. For the safety of cats, our policy is; cats should be confined at night vaccination against cat flu and feline enteritis identification through micro chipping, or by collar and disc no free range breeding (roaming and mating at large)
