Chuffnut Cavies has become an affiliate of the Australian Cavy Sanctuary (ACS). While ACS was founded in Brisbane, there are now shelters in Brisbane, Sydney, Geelong and Melbourne. Chuffnut Cavies does not currently offer "open to the public" days but appointments can be made to visit our animals or have our manager visit you in your home or at an agreed location, with animals of interest in tow! Chuffnut Cavies do not support breeding of guinea pigs as there is an over-abundance of homeless guinea pigs due to deliberate or accidental overbreeding. Quite often, these excessive piggy numbers are caused by poor advice given by petshops or backyard breeders, or by misexing of paired pets. We ask that anyone considering breeding their pet guinea pigs - PLEASE RECONSIDER. There are many risks to the sows when you choose to breed them. Many die from complications that you may not have anticipated. If you love your pet, please let them live a full and happy life without the expectation to breed, and further add to the rising number of homeless guinea pigs. If you choose to breed your piggies to make some money from them, understand that there is no money to be made from them. That is, if you give your animals the required attention and health care that they deserve, and if you bother to spend the time to screen your buyers for suitability as piggy owners Perhaps if you neglect your animals, you may save a few $$ but it is cruel and thoughtless to treat an animal like this. Please give all animals the respect and care that they require. Thank you for reading this spiel!!
