Council's animal shelter is a cooperative approach between Sutherland Shire Council and City of Sydney Council that houses dogs and cats which have been found stray, abandoned, or seized. If animals cannot be returned to its owner, the shelter seeks new homes for them. The shelter operates under a 'Low-kill' policy, whereby only those dogs or cats assessed to be either a danger or having an illness that would affect its quality of life is euthanased. All dogs and cats rehoused are DESEXED, lifetime registered, vaccinated and microchipped. They also leave the shelter with a collar and council made tag.
