The Animal Protection Society of 27 Talbot Road, Southern River is a not-for-profit refuge for abandoned cats and dogs. The Refuge has been incorporated since 1974 and is run by a wonderful group of volunteers which includes a volunteer management committee. All help clean and care for the animals. We have up to 24 dogs, 85 cats and 45 kittens (in kitten season) at any one time all of whom seek a new loving family and home. We are also seeking foster families - for further information please telephone the refuge or email info@animalprotectionsociety.westnet.com.au We have a no kill policy and the dogs and cats reside at the Refuge until they find new owners. The Refuge is open to the public seven days a week from 10am to 3pm and visitors are welcome to come and have a look around. If you would like to volunteer you would be welcomed with open arms! You can volunteer from about 8am to 6pm, you choose the time. We greatly require help in the mornings and from mid afternoon, though help any time of the day is much appreciated. You can help clean the kennels, walk the dogs or play with them and most beneficial would be to do some training with the dogs. There are the catteries to clean or you could cuddle the cats and groom them...sit down for one minute and it wont be long before you are joined by a little furry body....or two...or three...or more!!
