About Hefner Loveday
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION OF HEFNER PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html
Hefner Loveday loves food, walks, being fussed over and most importantly being with you. And did we say he loves food. He adores being with his humans and is happy to sit near them on his cushion on the floor. He will go up to people for a pat and then is happy.
However since he has recovered from his operation on his cruciate his energy levels are much higher. He would really benefit from an active lifestyle and needs a couple of good walks a day to use up his energy or he can get quite boisterous after dinner. Some mental stimulation will help also. He walks well on the lead, likes to stop and sniff but he doesn't pull. His physio has recommended that a good continuous motion when walking will strengthen his leg and get his cardio fitness up. He is fairly calm when he sees other dogs. He may play briefly with them, both at home or out, but people are his focus.
And as for food… He is very much a beagle and will steal food if he can. On one walk he managed to find a discarded sushi roll, and stole a capsicum from a grocery bag out on the floor. He can sniff out a single crumb on a bench and food must be left out of his reach. He does know he is not being good but he is very opportunistic. Oops he’s just demolished and eaten his tennis ball.
Hefner can sit, shake hands and responds to his name when he's called in the house, though not always reliably. He is working on this with his foster carer.
Hefner is looking for a family who will make him feel like the most important dog in the world. He will need strong leadership to deal with his beagle-ness but will reward that with great loyalty and love.
Hefner is untested with cats.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer a six-week full refund, free assistance for six weeks for any issues, and a lifetime takeback policy with a fifty percent refund of the adoption fee, and of course an invitation to our adopters’ Christmas party.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
