About Dancer
I was surrendered to Lort Smith along with my litter mates as we were from an unexpected pregnancy.
My parents are both mixed with large dog breeds, so I think I will take after them and grow into a big strong girl!
**I am currently not able to go to a home with any other animals, children under 10 or people that are immune compromised, as I am recovering from a Salmonella infection. I will require repeat tests in 3 weeks’ time, Lort Smith will cover these costs. For more information, please scroll to the bottom of the page to read my medical disclaimer.**
My new carers will need to be patient with me, as I am just a pup and have not had much experience with the big wide world. They should be willing to take me to puppy school and ongoing obedience training, so I can continue to learn and build confidence. This will help me to become a well-rounded and confident dog. Any outside socialisation or puppy classes will need to be put on hold until my test results come back.
I am a playful, active, intelligent and loving pup. I can go to a home with older children (10+) – they could even help with my training!
I am a pretty active girl so I will need a family that will be able to keep up with me and be able to provide daily activity and mental enrichment.
If you think I sound like a perfect fit for you, please contact the Lort Smith Adoption Hub. I have a feeling I’m going to be a very popular pup!
Medical notes
Recovering from Salmonellosis
-Dancer has been treated for diarrhoea and her symptoms have resolved.
-Her faecal PCR test indicates she is shedding Salmonella in her stools.
-Adult dogs with Salmonella are often asymptomatic but any infected animal will shed the organism for at least 6 weeks, thus acting as a source of exposure to other animals or people.
-Salmonella organisms are difficult to remove from the environment and survive 3 months in soil.
Description:
The following precautions are advised to minimise spread to other animals or people:
1. Practice good hand hygiene - using soap & water or alcohol sanitiser, after handling Dancer.
2. Dancer should be adopted to a family with no other pets, until her faecal PCR test is negative.
3. Immunocompromised people or children under 10 years of age should avoid contact with Dancer until her faecal PCR test is negative.
4. Minimise close dog-to-dog contact on walks until her faecal PCR test is negative.
5. Do not handle faeces. Dispose of faeces in a tied-up bag.
8. Regular washing of pet beds/blankets.
Lort Smith will cover the costs of repeat fecal PCR testing in 4 weeks time (around the 16th of February). This fecal sample is sent off for diagnostics and takes approximately 7 working days before a report is sent back to us.
