About Koda
Hi! My name is Koda. I am a pure breed Rough Collie. Whilst I am only 18 months old, I have experienced the best and worst of life. I was formally a breeding dog and lived outside with only intermittent interaction with my humans. Once I was rescued by my current family they set about helping me with my anxieties, socialisation and brought me into their home for many cuddles and kisses.
I have a rather loud bark but I'm a softy at heart. I adore children but can also get super excited when I see them and I jump up to say hello. That can be quite scary but it is a behaviour that I'm working on.
I also have a few anxieties around walking outside. I don't really trust the cars, trucks and buses that pass by but my human is helping me to desensitise. Other dogs can trigger me sometimes too so I need a firm and confident hand when walking on the lead. Although I'm a big, fluffy, dog, I'm also a bit of a scaredy cat!
Speaking of cats - I'd never met them before. My family has 3 of them! I find them hugely interesting but they don't appreciate me much. Whilst I have never attacked them, I do like to chase them for fun if they scamper near me. I mainly give them a wide berth.
I am currently living with 3 other dogs too. They are little dogs and I love to be around them. I tend to follow rather than lead. At first I was very protective of my food but I'm doing better at sharing and being a part of a larger family unit.
My current family would love to keep me but there are two members of the existing family that are struggling to adapt to my presence. For this reason they have decided to put the feelers out to see if they can find a new home for me.
The ideal home for me would be one that has lots of space and not high density housing. I am very happy to be part of a family with kids - I LOVE kids! - but they should be a bit older as my puppy behaviour can be boisterous at times. I am super affectionate and will be looking for lots of cuddles and kisses. I love to be part of the family, to be inside and included.
I'm not sure how I would be at home on my own during the day. I think my anxiety would be quite high initially and will require patience and understanding whilst I settle into my new abode. My current fur family keeps me entertained and my humans tend to be around during the day so I settled down quickly in this home.
My current family is very social and we always have lots of kids and strangers (to me!) coming and going from the house. Whilst I found this challenging at first, I'm starting to quickly adapt and now I wait excitedly at the front door when someone new approaches.
They are also super noisy! I have settled down and no longer react with anxiety to the loud noises, bangs and crashes. However I really don't like the play fighting or any unusual physical expression. This makes me concerned for my pack and I like to shut it down quickly.
I have basic training and would benefit from ongoing training as I am a clever boy and love learning new tricks. I have heaps of potential and with a little patience, love, time and effort, I will be the most amazing companion for your family. I am house trained, desexed and up-to-date with my vaccinations.
