About Patch
NAME: Patch
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us as an owner surrender.
BREED: Newfoundland X Border Collie X Red Heeler
General breed traits: Newfoundland, bred as a working dog, also makes a good family companion. They are affectionate and friendly with children, dogs and strangers. Large, strong dogs that have a tendency to drool and shed. They are easy to train and need exercise and mental stimulation. Grooming is a must.
Border Collie: these are herding dogs, highly intelligent with unlimited energy, stamina and drive. Can make great family companions as long as they get loads of mental and physical exercise - not couch potatoes they need a job. Easy to train but the herding instinct is strong and needs to be directed.
Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) :Affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Usually attaches to one person and loves to be close. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if not mentally and physically worked enough can be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and will nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless reared with them. Not for novice owners.
ASSETS: Affectionate, eager to please, cheeky, friendly, very active, sweet and playful! She can be a little timid when meeting new people initially but is fine once she gets to know you.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Patch loves to get out and about for walks in the bush and at the beach, and loves to play tug of war with the other dogs in her foster home.
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other friendly dogs. She will chase cats and small animals so we won't rehome her with anything small and fluffy!
GENERAL INFO: Patch is a very smart, active girl who loves to be around people. She walks well on the lead, is housetrained and knows most commands.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
*Stability: A home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take her with them when they go out. She has the potential to be destructive when bored or left alone for too long, and will target shoes etc... She would love constant companionship and would make a great tradies dog or friend to someone who wants a constant companion.
*Time: Patch will need plenty of daily exercise, she'd be a great dog to go running with. She will need at least 2 good walks/runs each day to occupy her mind and burn off her energy. She would also be great at agility - the training and exercise would be a challenge she would love. If you don't have time in your life to exercise a high energy dog then Patch is not for you.
*Space: Patch would love some space such as an acreage property or farm. If homed to a town property she would need a well fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for her to sniff.
*Love: Patch needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, to sleep inside at night and to be included as part of the family. She would go well with dog-savvy, gentle children over 5 years of age and could live with another young playful dog dependent on meet.
If Patch sounds like the perfect girl for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
