On Hold
About Danny ~ 17mo Pointer X (On hold pend. trial 2/2/21
Please read this profile in full before enquiring about Danny and fill in the adoption questionnaire to be considered. Our valuable volunteers are busy and cannot respond to applicants who have not understood Danny's requirements.
Danny is a pointer x mastiff with a heart of gold. At only 18 months old, he has the energy of a puppy but social skills beyond his years. He is a social butterfly who is in heaven being off lead at the beach or dog park, saying hello to all the other dogs. Danny has been well cared for recently after a rough start in his early life. Now 30kg and thriving due to loving care for the last 6 months, Danny finds himself looking for a loving, active family who love to give him lots of attention, long walks and visit the beach or dog parks regularly.
Danny is beautifully behaved inside the home and would love to be invited inside to sleep and be included as part of the family. Owners working from home or part-time would be ideal. Like most young pups, he does not cope well with long hours by himself, he has been known to chew due to separation anxiety and lack of attention.
Danny is a very loyal and affectionate boy, child friendly and submissive to other dogs. He can be boisterous, so care around small children is needed. He is definitely best suited to a family with dog savvy children over 7-8 years old. He would need a large grassy yard with high fences and secure gates. He is very good in the car, excited to go anywhere with you and sits calmly while travelling.
Danny has shown great improvement walking on a lead, after discovering a front leading harness works wonders for him. He needs an experienced owner to walk him on a lead, strong enough to hold him as he has a strong instinct (half pointer!) to chase and hunt wildlife when walking in the bush. Motivated by small treats, he is very smart and keen to learn. So far, he loves to chase a ball or stick but is working on bringing it back. He would be equally happy as an only dog with your undivided attention, or with another friendly dog for company.
