About Marty
Marty is the very definition of a ‘long boi’. At 180cm in length and 40kg, his foster family have coined the nickname ‘Little Horse’ to describe this handsome fellow and his tall, athletic frame.
He’s got the energy levels to match too. Marty loves to be active, taking at least two half hour walks a day, interspersed with plenty of play time and zoomies in the backyard in short bursts. His favourite place in the world is the car, because usually that means he gets to explore new places (unless he goes to the vet, which is not so exciting…). But as quickly as Marty gets excited, he crashes within seconds. After a good walk at the park, legs flying everywhere with excitement, Marty will hop inside the car and be asleep in moments, exhausted from his own goofy nature.
Marty has discovered so many great things about life as a pet; he loves toys and likes to have them within paw’s distance at all times; he thinks air conditioners are the best, and will lie stretched out in front of them, hogging all the cool air on hot days; he’s also learned that he loves spending time with humans, albeit maybe a little too much. Marty experiences separation anxiety and gets stressed being left alone. He will need an owner that works from home and is open to helping Marty overcome his fear. A second dog may also help alleviate this stress.
At home, you can probably find Marty near the closest pillow – he thinks they are the softest things ever! He also has a tendency to steal items like shoes and keys. He will never destroy them, but instead looks after them like a careful magpie. He’s a beautiful boy with a big personality who is just looking for a family to call his own.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.
