About Shelby
PLEASE NOTE: I am only allowed to be adopted in NSW or ACT.
My name is Shelby and I am a five year old German Shepherd, and I found my way to a local shelter but my family didn't come to pick me up.
As you can see in the photos I am a little skinny, but my foster carers are feeding me up. I have also had a bath and my old coat is now coming out.
I am a very friendly dog, and walk relatively well on the lead, but at the moment I am reactive when I see other dogs. I will be getting some training next week. I think in my past life I may have been a greyhound as I love to run in the paddock at the kennels. So I will need a new home with either a very large garden or acreage where I can run.
I am looking for a home who have recently had a German Shepherd and understand my breed. I haven't been tested with small dogs, cats or pocket pets. There is a small dogs next door to my foster home and I don't like it.
I will need a home where I will be an integral family member and where I can continue with my lead and basic obedience training.
Due to my size I cannot go to a home with children who haven't had a German Shepherd recently. I will need an owner who will guide me and give me confidence.
Intelligence, loyalty, love and companionship is what I will give in abundance when I connect and build that trust with my new owner.
If you understand the nature of the German Shepherd, have recently owned a German Shepherd, and are looking for a companion dog then please consider me.
If you think you can give me a new home please contact us by selecting "Enquire about this Pet".
Medical notes
Shelby is microchipped, vaccinated and desexed.
Adoption details
We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
