About Wally
Wally has come in leaps and bounds during his time at Gumtree Greys. He arrived an extremely anxious boy who was completely overwhelmed by the world around him; new people, windows, stairs, household noises – you name it. He was just so unsure of his place in the world and needed time to adjust.
In a few short weeks, Wally has undergone a remarkable change. His confidence is growing and he sees each new day as a chance to tackle on of his fears. His transformation has revealed a sensitive, affectionate soul who loves to be cuddled by those he trusts. He still can’t believe he gets to sleep on a soft bed (who knew such heaven existed!) He now cheekily eyes off the couch and human bed, which look even softer than his own.
Wally is still baffled by toys and the concept of ‘playing’. He’s engaged in play a couple of times since arriving, much to the delight of his foster carers, but he’s still learning how to embrace his playful side. He doesn’t really show any interest in other dogs on walks. He currently has an elbow injury, but once that has healed he will need to be excercised regularly. It’s a great for him to burn off energy and become more comfortable with the world around him.
Wally’s personality will continue to shine as his confidence grows. What we have uncovered so far is a true diamond. Sweet, loyal and well-behaved, Wally will make the perfect family pet.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
