About Bomber ~ 2yr Old Kelpie (On Trial 26/05/21)
Meet Bomber - he is a tall, dark and handsome 2yo border collie x kelpie.
Due to a change in circumstances, Bomber finds himself looking for a loving, quiet but physically active family who love to walk or run.....and rub his belly!
He has always lived outside (with 2 or 3 other dogs) but is very well behaved inside the home and would love to be invited inside to sleep and be included as part of the family. Owners working from home or part-time would be ideal. He does not cope well with long hours by himself.
Bomber can get protective of his family, being a loyal boy, he will need some assistance in learning how to best meet new people in his new home. His new family will need experience and patience with Bomber as he learns how to be more social. He can be very excitable, so care around small children is needed. He is definitely best suited to a family with dog savvy children over 12 years old. He would need a medium/large grassy yard with high fences and secure gates. He is very good in the car, excited to go anywhere with you and sits calmly while travelling.
Bomber is carrying extra weight and he is keen to get walking as much as possible. He has shown great improvement walking on a lead, after discovering a front leading harness works wonders for him. Motivated by small treats, he is very smart and keen to learn. Sit, down and stay are his basic commands. So far, he is not too interested in fetching balls or sticks. He would be happiest as an only dog with your undivided attention. He can be a little offended by other dogs and cats, so again a family with patience and experience on how to teach him to greet others in an appropriate way would be the best fit. No food allergies but strict portion control is needed to get his weight down.
Bomber is looking for a home with someone who understands his needs. He would not suit a family with young children or lots of visitors/entertaining. Stubborn occasionally, he needs a family who will commit to his ongoing training needs, daily running or a fast walking pace from owners confident with a strong dog. At this stage he would not be suitable to take to dog parks.
Please be aware that border collies are shedding dogs and need regular brushing / grooming for their comfort and good health. Allergies to dogs, or dog hair would not suit Bomber.
