About Skyla
Please note, all adoption enquiries are required to complete a full adoption application and sending enquiries will redirect you to the application www.ppar.com.au/adoption-application/
Please complete the application rather than send enquiries.
Skyla is sight-impaired and deaf. Her sight was assessed by a specialist who confirmed that she can see shapes and has some depth perception. She can ably maneuver around the home without bumping into furniture or walls and also will jump off the couch no problems. She is deaf and needs to be touched to gain her attention if out of her eyeline.
ONLY APPLICANTS WITH ANOTHER MEDIUM, FRIENDLY DOG WILL BE CONSIDERED.
√ child friendly (older)
√ dog friendly
? untested with cats
* needs a medium-sized, playful dog buddy
* needs 5-6ft high fences
* needs to be allowed inside with the family
Skyla is a beautiful working dog breed, with a loving, gentle and playful soul. Prepare yourself for the loyalty and affection from a dog who loves unconditionally.
Although Skyla comes with some challenges (she is deaf and partially blind) do not let this discourage you from having such an intelligent dog in your home. Skyla is a clever girl and a quick learner. You just need a little patience to teach her the cues that you want her to know.
Skyla is also a very sound sleeper, mainly because she cannot hear you. This is a great advantage when you're opening a bag of food or the fridge.
Skyla is still a puppy, so she is full of energy, she loves her long walks, and if you already have another dog, they will become fast friends due to her friendly nature.
DOG FRIENDLY:
YES!! But more suited to a home with a dog close in age and similar height. She can be a bit rough with smaller breeds, but it is not on purpose, she is just unaware of her playfulness and energy.
KID FRIENDLY:
Yes, but more suited to older children, from maybe 7-10 years up as she is super boisterous and loves to jump. She can be easily excited and loves to zoom around outside.
CAT FRIENDLY:
Not tested, but leaning more to a No
ENERGY LEVEL:
HIGH!! Due to still being a puppy and being of a working dog breed.
TOILET TRAINED:
Yes – but you must be diligent in training her where you want her to go to the toilet if you are having her inside, however once she knows, she never forgets.
BASIC OBEDIENCE:
Unsure – as Skyla is deaf and partially blind it is unknown what she understands. She learns habits.
Skyla can not be left alone for long periods of time due to being deaf and blind. If she thinks that she is alone in a room, she will “look” for you. If she feels she is outside alone and can not sense you she will bark – however when outside – she will eventually occupy herself.
Skyla is an early riser, so be prepared to be woken early for bathroom, cuddles, walk and her food.
Skyla will be a blessing to whomever adopts her into their home, you will not regret having this beautiful girl in your life.
