About Handsome Blackberry
Beautiful Blackberry is a purr machine and cuddle cat in the making. He was rescued from the backyard of a lady in her 90s who had been feeding him but could no longer take care of him and who could tell he was unwell. That lady’s lovely daughter desperately wanted to find a solution for Berry as she knew what a softie he was and reached out to us for help.
We were full (as usual) but of course I couldn’t resist a friendly black cat.... Berry turned up at my house sick, scared and stinky (that lovely Tom Cat smell ). After a few trips to the vet and some R&R, he’s decided life as a house cat is pretty damn good!
Berry loves to sit on my desk behind my monitor all day while I work and circles me for pats and so that I will brush him. His confidence is growing every day and I know he’s going to make a wonderful companion for someone. He’s a small cat- not even 4kg- and the perfect size for a lap!
Berry would be best suited to a home with a single or couple and no children, as he is still a bit shy and timid and hasn’t been exposed to children. He’s cat friendly and is desperate to be friends with his foster brothers (they’re not quite on board yet) but would also be fine to go solo.
Berry is FIV+ but this is no big deal and we can discuss it further with anyone interested. He also has kidney disease, but it has improved since he has been on a special diet and his blood test results are moving in the right direction. Berry will need to have this special kidney food and semi regular blood tests to monitor his condition for the rest of his life.
Medical notes
Please note that Blackberry is FIV+, which means that while he is immunocompromised (similar to HIV), if kept strictly indoors, up to date on flea/worm treatments and yearly vaccinations, and fed a raw healthy diet, he can still live a long healthy life. Cats with FIV rarely progress to AIDS (unlike the human virus), in fact only in 5% of cases, which means 19/20 cats will likely die of old age before anything FIV related. It is rarely transmitted to other animals (or humans) via casual contact, and only really becomes an issue if taking out pet insurance. Please don’t be afraid to adopt a FIV+ cat, they need loving homes too!
Our cats come desexed, vaccinated (1st F3 & booster), microchipped, FIV & FELV tested and will have up to date worm and flea treatments. There is a one-time council registration fee which is compulsory in NSW, that will need to be met at completion of the adoption trial. Please note their age in this ad is an estimate only. They are rescue cats and their foster parents do not know their precise age or family history and cannot guarantee their future health.
