About Sookie the Smoocher
All About Me and My Unique Personality:
Hi! I'm Sookie and I'm the smoochiest friendliest kitty you’ve ever met. I'm confident, clever, curious, playful, and sometimes mischievous. I like to chatter to you and I purr a lot. I looooove attention and I love humans. I enjoy pats and cuddles and being carried around. One of my favourite hobbies is snuggling into any human lap or chest or neck that's available.
When you come home, I’m likely to meow hello and reach up so you can pick me up for a hug. Sometimes my foster mum lets me ride around on her shoulders while she does chores at home - so much fun!
I grew up in a house with other cats, and I'm used to lots of interaction. I’m very playful, and I'm happiest when I have a cat friend to play with.
Seeing that I was interested in outside, my foster mum has been training me to walk on a harness. She says I'm doing great so far! We've been taking short harness walks in the courtyard where I can sniff everything and roll in the dirt like a Good Boi. Very fun.
I'm desexed, vaccinated, lifetime registered, and waiting to be rescued by the perfect family.
My Ideal Home:
I need company, so I'd be happiest with a playful cat companion, or in a home where I can always find someone who can cuddle or play with me. I'm not suitable for a home where I'm left completely alone while all the humans go off to work (a friendly pet companion would be ok though).
It's important that my new family will keep my litter box nice and clean, and feed me a good quality meat-based diet.
What is Known About My Background:
I was cuddled a lot in a loving home with several other cat friends. I was surrendered after getting a bit sick with cystitis which wasn't resolvable in that environment. Since coming into care in early October, my cystitis cleared up very quickly and I'm feeling great again. I'm otherwise a healthy and happy young cat! Cystitis and urinary infections can be common in cats - especially males - and can usually be resolved (and prevented) with reduction of stress, a good diet, and excellent litter box hygiene. With this simple care, I shouldn’t suffer from this health condition again. When I'm rescued, my foster mum can supply contact info for my old vet, who knows my whole medical history.
I have just come back from an extended adoption trial with a brilliant family who loved me to bits, but their existing cat didn’t like me in the house. I was a perfect gentleman with the cat and tried my best to be polite and friendly, but it didn’t work. The family have reluctantly returned me to care.
I am already Lifetime Registered, but I was desexed at 6 months (a little late according to NSW Pet Registry rules) so my new family will probably need to take a few extra steps with my pet registration to get it updated. This might include covering an annual permit fee until my registration is properly updated. This will be the responsibility of my new family, and is something that will need to be worked out with the council and the NSW Pet Registry.
How Do I Interact with Kids, Dogs, Cats and Other Pets:
I grew up in a house with other cats, and I'm friendly. I have had a great experience with a cat introduction in foster care, and we became respectful playmates. When faced with an unfriendly cat, I do my best to be polite and de-escalate the situation. I could go well with a proper introduction to a friendly cat.
I'm a very friendly and gentle cat, so I enjoy hanging out with older gentle children who will respect me.
I haven't been near dogs since coming into care so I'm not sure how I will behave around them.
