About Massimo
Massimo is a very special boy, we’ve never met a greyhound like him. He is full of surprises. Just when you think you’ve got him pegged, he’ll do something to make you laugh or show another side to his dynamic personality. During his time in foster care, Massimo has shown his affection for people in high-vis vests, an infatuation with cheese, and love of smelling flowers.
At home, Massimo is incredibly well-adjusted. He is quick to understand boundaries and new commands, is toilet-trained and very relaxed with his food. His new owners will need to be early risers because he is most energetic in the morning. A 30 minute walk will help tire him out ready for a full day snoozing. He likes company but is also happy spending time during the day by himself.
The outside world is a bit too distracting for Massimo to remember all his training. All the sights, smells and sounds are simply too interesting for him to resist. More socialisation will be needed for Massimo to feel confident around other dogs, but we think small dogs might always be a little bit too interesting for him. He’s still learning how to manage his excitement, so some ongoing training will be required.
Massimo may be happy living with another greyhound, but provided he gets enough attention he will be very happy as an only dog too.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
