About Piper
Late last year, Piper came in to care as one of a litter of 12 with their starving, neglected mother.
I had the pleasure of fostering her and two of her brothers leading up to Christmas.
Piper was always the thinker.
She was never one to boldly go where no pup has ever gone. She always assessed people before approaching for pats.
It wasn’t long until Piper was adopted, after all, how can you say no to a cute puppy face!!!
Unfortunately this wasn’t to be her happily ever after.
6 months later, Piper came back to us as a 9 month old dog who was now that little bit broken. She was scared of the world around her, her flight instinct was set to critical 24/7.
That thoughtful, sweet puppy who left the rescue was now scared of her own shadow.
Her Hero this time was Emma. Emma took this beautiful big girl in and helped her to decompress and learn that most people really are wonderful. Piper spent a few weeks with Emma while she found her brave and got over a nasty UTI and then she came to stay with me in the country.
There’s less hustle and bustle out here.
There’s room and time to sit back, she could assess and think about a situation before getting there, to desensitize and begin to get used to the world all over again.
Piper has been at Hattonvale now for a good 2 months just watching the world go by, making new friends and working hard on her brave.
Piper looooves the resident children. At 4 & 6 they are still young, she is very gentle and patient with them.
She still gets startled when there’s something “new” in the yard, and that includes people.
She is no longer petrified of the cats, and can now walk past the guinea pigs with not much more than a side eye. Can you imagine a 33kg puppy being absolutely frozen in fear of a guinea pig!
She roughhouses with the resident dogs, using her size to boss them around and still barks at the horses, but they’re goals for another day ☺️
Piper is adoption ready and we are taking expressions of interest for her.
Please message us here at the page with as much information about yourself and your home as you can muster.
