About Socrates
Hi there, I'm Socrates! I'm quite young, in fact I'm still just a puppy really, but I'm quite the thinker... the only thing I know, is that I know I want to have a good time and eat ALL the treats!
I'm living it up in foster care at the moment and keeping my foster family entertained with my goofy, fun loving ways. I think every day should be filled with playtime, toys, treats and fun! In between play sessions, I enjoy roaching, sleeping in funny positions, auditioning for 'tongue out Tuesday' and helping my foster dad with the gardening. Oh, and a spot of philosophy of course, such as this - "to know yourself, eat for yourself!" Did I mention I'm a big fan of food? If you need someone to help finish your meals, look no further!
I'm sharing my foster home with another greyhound and I think I'd be happy to live with another hound in my forever home too - just as long as they're happy to spend lots of time playing with me!
Here are some notes from my foster humans:
Socrates loves his treats and his food. He also loves playing and toys, and loves enrichment activities. He does regular zoomies in our backyard, and get super excited when he knows we're going for a walk. He is pretty cruisy and has recently taken to enjoying car rides. There isn't much Socrates doesn't like. He loves people, and follows us around like a shadow for scratches and so he doesn't miss out on anything!
Socrates is still relatively young for a greyhound so is still learning our routine and still has some puppy tendencies; he is bouncy, perseverant and curious to learn about his environment. Food is a huge motivation for Socrates so he responds well to training if his forever home are prepared to work with him. He is very excited meeting new people and we are teaching him to not jump on new people. With training and patience we think this can be overcome, but in the meantime care should be taken around small children or elderly visitors.
Socrates is toilet trained (he knows to go to the toilet in our backyard), and he is getting better on the lead and learning not to pull. He gets very excited seeing new dogs out and about and needs some encouragement to calm down around other dogs; he is still learning his manners and being respectful of other dogs and their space.
Socrates' forever home will have a backyard for sniffing and zooming, and a doggy brother or sister who is patient and respectful of his space would be a great companion to show him the doggy ropes. His forever human(s) should be expected to take him out for regular walks and provide enrichment to wear him out; he still has puppy energy levels!
Adoption details
All of Greyhound Rescue's adoption and foster placements are on a case-by-case basis. We go to great lengths to match each dog with their new family to make sure that both dog and family are happy. We offer post-adoption support to our rescue community so that each adoptive family and hound are cared for.
We will send you an application form to complete and return. Then we will arrange a house check. It is important that the right hound goes to the right home! We can arrange for you to meet the dog/s and they can meet your family and/or other pets. Our hounds go “on trial” with your family for a minimum of 2 weeks.
Greyhound Rescue's adoption fee is $385. All our hounds are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated, and heartworm tested and treated. The adoption fee also includes our New Adopter Kit - collar, leash, muzzle and loads of other goodies to help you get your new hound settled into the family.
