About Pop
Hi there, I'm old man Pop! At 9 years old I guess you would call me a senior gent, but you might not guess it from looking at me, with my sleek black coat and my enthusiasm for life. I just love going on walks and greeting people with joy! I'm a big fan of playtime too, because it combines my two favourite things - people and toys!
In between play sessions, walkies and greeting you with a big smile, I do love a good snooze session, so I hope my forever home has some nice comfy spots where I can chill to my heart's content.
I'm not too fussy about what kind of home I'm after, whether it's big or small, it doesn't matter to me - as long as it involves a loving family and a few toys, I think I'll be a very happy guy! I get along well with other dogs too if you have any of them at home!
Some notes from Pop's foster carer
Pop is a gorgeous calm, friendly dog, who loves people making a fuss of him. He will enthusiastically encourage you to stroke him under the chin or on his chest and belly when he is lying down. Pop will spend much of the day sleeping.
When he first came to us his back legs were very weak, but a combination of injections for arthritis and regular walks have done wonders for him and he is much stronger now. He likes a half hour walk in the morning and early evening but is not at all keen on spending time outside in the heat of the day. Pop walks well on a lead and enjoys meeting people and other dogs. He is fine with dogs of any size, although he gets quite excited and will even bark once or twice if big, bouncy puppies want to interact with him. We have not had any dogs or children visit the home, so although I think that he would be fine, we have not had an opportunity to observe his behaviour.
Pop is fully house trained. He is fine in an apartment and only needs toilet trips outside every four hours or so. Having said that he easily manages for eight or nine hours overnight. Pop is happy to be left alone for a few hours at a time – he shows no separation anxiety and always greets us enthusiastically when we get home.
Pop likes his food and particularly his liver treats, although strangely for a greyhound, he is not so keen on chicken. Pop settled in here very quickly and I am sure he will do the same with his forever family.
Medical notes
Pop has arthritis which is being managed through injections by a vet.
Adoption details
All of Greyhound Rescue's adoption and foster placements are on a case-by-case basis. We go to great lengths to match each dog with their new family to make sure that both dog and family are happy. We offer post-adoption support to our rescue community so that each adoptive family and hound are cared for.
We will send you an application form to complete and return. Then we will arrange a house check. It is important that the right hound goes to the right home! We can arrange for you to meet the dog/s and they can meet your family and/or other pets. Our hounds go “on trial” with your family for a minimum of 2 weeks.
Greyhound Rescue's adoption fee is $385. All our hounds are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated, and heartworm tested and treated. The adoption fee also includes our New Adopter Kit - collar, leash, muzzle and loads of other goodies to help you get your new hound settled into the family.
