Introducing Maximus!
Maximus can be very timid at first meeting but this beautiful boy is gaining confidence daily and can be a little excitable and bouncy once he warms up.
Maximus has medium to high energy levels and will need stimulation to keep him happy and engaged. He enjoys twice daily walks, playing with other dogs and chewing on a Kong or treat dispenser for a challenge. He is also loves engaging in training sessions and is an eager learner.
Maximus is currently an inside/outside dog, allowed access to the home most of the time but will happily stay outside with his doggy friends when asked. He is working hard at learning the ropes of being an inside dog. His toilet training is progressing beautifully with management and he is currently learning the basics of training like sit and stay as well as on lead manners. He is highly food motivated which definitely helps with training although his excitement levels need to be managed for this to be effective. He is learning fast but still needs boundaries and supervision to set him up for success.
Maximus absolutely adores his people and once he gets to know you he will shadow your every move. His favourite things to do include snuggling with his people, chewing his Kong and eating chicken.
Maximus was quite skinny coming into care and can at times resource guard his food from other dogs. He currently lives with 3 other dogs both smaller and larger than him and this is managed easily with separation during feeding, although his anxiety around food has almost abated with regular feeding, boundaries and supervision. He seems to gain confidence from the other dogs especially when it comes to toileting outside at night. A family with a confident and happy doggy friend would be ideal for him.
Maximus currently lives happily with 4 children aged 11, 9, 8 and 2. He is extremely affectionate and loving towards them but can get a little bit excitable so a family with older children would be recommended. He has not been properly tested with cats but has proved non reactive when passing on walks. He has not been tested with any other animals.
Maximus is a large dog but has not tried to jump. 5ft to 6ft fencing would be recommended but not a necessity in the right home.
Maximus is working on his recall and improving daily. Distractions are still proving an issue which is definitely expected at this early stage. He will still jump on benches and chew household items if not properly supervised but is easily redirected and it has not proved to be a problem. Maximus currently sleeps in the home and will steal your bed and your heart! He will happily sleep beside your bed if asked but is at his happiest snuggled into you.
Maximus is ideally suited to a family home more often than not with the time, love and patience to give this beautiful boy the life he deserves.
