About Louie
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Louie
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us from the local pound
BREED: Mum is a Ridgeback/Bull Terrier and Dad a Red Heeler X
General breed traits:
Rhodesian Ridgeback: Smart but stubborn with a dignified aloofness to strangers, Mischievous and strong willed so would need an experienced owner. They are sensitive and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Affectionate and gentle with family and will defend their home if necessary. Their high prey drive precludes other animals unless raised together. Can be aggressive towards animals outside the home. If bored and lonely can be destructive or wander so strong, high fencing is needed. Not a dog for novice owners.
Bull terrier: They love people and are very affectionate and sensitive and don't like to be left alone for long periods or can be destructive. They want to be with their family all the time. They have high energy and love to be busy so need plenty of exercise and playtime. Their high prey drive precludes smaller pet species such as cats. They are trainable but stubborn and not for novice owners.
Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog): Affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Usually attaches to one person and loves to be close. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if not mentally and physically worked enough they will be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and will nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless raised with them. Not for novice owners.
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, friendly, obedient, sensitive, sweet and very playful!
FAVOURITE THINGS: PLAYTIME! Louie loves to play with other dogs, he will spend the whole day playing. He also loves cuddles and is very affectionate. He's great with kids and smothers them with love. His favourite toys are squeaky and chew toys, and he loves to play tug of war with the other dogs in his foster home. He is also a complete cuddle bug and loves to snuggle on the couch with his foster carer.
OTHER ANIMALS: Loves other dogs! He hasn't been introduced to any cats as yet and we wouldn't recommend a home with small animals due to his breed.
GENERAL INFO: Louie is an absolute darling. He can be a little wary/timid when first meeting new people and animals but is fine once he knows he's safe. He's doing great with his lead training and learning commands and he is house-trained. He's a clever cookie and picks things up quickly so it is important that he has activities where he can use his brain. He can get a bit whiney when he's not with his human so we'd really love him to go to a home with another, friendly and playful dog, or to a home where he'll be the centre of attention. Louie will bark at unknown noises.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
* A home where someone is home for a good part of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take Louie out and about.
* Louie needs an owner who will put in the time to train and socialize him and build his confidence (training classes are a must). 2 good walks/runs a day are essential to keep him motivated and happy.
* Louie needs a good sized yard to run around in to burn off his playful energy.
* Louie needs to be allowed to be inside or out as he chooses, and to be included as part of the family. We would recommend that he goes to a family with older children only due to his size and energy (10+)
If Louie sounds like the boy for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
