About Lexi
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Lexi
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us from the local pound.
BREED: Mum is a Ridgeback/Bull Terrier and Dad a Red Heeler X
General breed traits:
Rhodesian Ridgeback: Smart but stubborn with a dignified aloofness to strangers, Mischievous and strong willed so would need an experienced owner. They are sensitive and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Affectionate and gentle with family and will defend their home if necessary. Their high prey drive precludes other animals unless raised together. Can be aggressive towards animals outside the home. If bored and lonely can be destructive or wander so strong, high fencing is needed. Not a dog for novice owners.
Bull terrier: They love people and are very affectionate and sensitive and don't like to be left alone for long periods or can be destructive. They want to be with their family all the time. They have high energy and love to be busy so need plenty of exercise and playtime. Their high prey drive precludes smaller pet species such as cats. They are trainable but stubborn and not for novice owners.
Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog): Affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Usually attaches to one person and loves to be close. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if not mentally and physically worked enough they will be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and will nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless raised with them. Not for novice owners.
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, friendly, confident, sweet and very playful!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Loves to play! Lexi is outgoing and quite boisterous. She is never happier than when she's running amok with other dogs or kids and is the last one to give up playing and go inside. She loves all toys, squeaky toys, chew toys and loves to play tug of war with the other dogs in the house.
OTHER ANIMALS: Lexi is friendly towards any dog she meets. She will not be suited to a home with cats or small animals.
GENERAL INFO: Lexi is learning lots of new things with her foster carer, including learning to walk on the lead, general commands and she is house-trained. She knows the sit command and is working on others. She is a quick learner. She will need consistent, gentle training in her new home in order to fulfill her massive potential. She can be a little rough when playing and can get a little nippy with excitement mostly when meeting you - this habit will need consistent work and reinforcement. She loves to be around kids and will happily snuggle up to them but is a bit more independent around adults and likes to do things on her own terms.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
* A home where someone is home for a good part of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take Lexi out and about
* Lexi needs an owner who will put in the time to train and socialize her (training classes are a must). 2 good walks/runs a day are essential to expend her energy and keep her happy.
* Lexi needs a good sized yard to run around in to burn off her playful energy.
* Lexi needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, and to be included as part of the family. She could live with dog savvy children (12+). She could also live with another friendly and playful dog.
If Lexi sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
