About Mack Melbourne
If you’ve always dreamed of owning a horse but don’t have the space, then Mack is the dog for you. We are kidding… kind of!
To say that Mack is a big boy is putting it lightly. But he’s got an even bigger soul that has an incredible amount of love to give. We can guarantee that with a couple of walks a day, some yummy food and regular cuddles, Mack will be BESOTTED with his new owner. He will become a part of your family quicker than you can say ‘neigh’!
If you are working from home and have been feeling a little lonely, Mack will be sure to keep you company throughout the day. He will follow you from room to room, ensuring that you never stray too far from his sight. He’s quite content to sit and watch you work or hang out on the couch with you for hours at a time. Because he loves human company so much, he is still wrapping his head around the concept of ‘bedtime’. He doesn’t enjoy seeing his humans disappear behind a closed door each evening, but is handling it much better these days bar an occasional whine or two.
Mack’s favourite part of the day is his morning walks. He wakes up full of beans and there’s no mucking about when he knows it’s time to hit the pavement. His energy is so contagious we think he could make even the grumpiest of night owls smile. To help him burn off any extra energy, we recommend taking him on a short walk in the evenings too.
Mack seems pretty calm around other dogs. His daily trips to the park are smooth sailing as Mack displays impeccable behaviour around even the rowdiest bunch of dogs. He might benefit from another dog as company if his new owners don’t work at home.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
