About Josh. Melbourne
Who needs a glue stick when Josh is around? This boy is stickier than PVA and has truly embodied his nickname ‘velcro boy'. If you are looking for companionship, cuddles and love, then Josh is your boy.
Josh arrived to Gumtree Greys underweight and hungry. He is a testament to what a warm, safe environment can do for a dog. After a few weeks in foster, Josh has started to put on weight and grow fur back in the bald patches accumulated during his time in the racing industry. He’s turning out to be a real looker!
Although Josh is filling out nicely, he’s still hungry. But it’s not food he is after anymore, its a family to call his own. He’s a very smoochy boy who just loves to be around humans. We think he would do well as an only dog, but his owners would need to spend a bit of time at home to keep him company.
Josh thinks walks are the highlight of his day. He loves to go for long walks so would suit an active owner who has time to let Josh sniff his way through the neighbourhood. Guaranteed he will go up to every human in sight for a quick pat.
Josh is not cat friendly. No small dog applications please.
Josh can be a bit bouncy when he gets excited so no children under 10 please.
Due to the limited time of volunteers, only potential adopters who complete our online application will be considered :

Medical notes
Josh recently has surgery to remove grit from a pad on his right foot. He is nearly fully recovered and now ready to meet his new family after being kept quiet for a couple of weeks.
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
