About Gill
MUST HAVE ANOTHER CALM OLDER DOG, NOT FOR APARTMENT LIVING, NOT FOR INTERSTATE ADOPTION....
Gill's foster mum calls Gill (shih tzu x silky) "the love bug" as he is always looking for ways to get pats and love and enjoys all the compliments he gets as to how cute and handsome he is.
Gill's ideal home would be a peaceful home in a quiet area with no young children and a home with at least one older dog who is calm and sociable. Gill loves loves to relax and cuddle up with his foster brother in the same bed. He is house-trained so a home where he is permitted to have access inside at all times is a must and also one where Gill will be permitted on the couch to cuddle up with you as cuddles are one of his favourite things. He enjoys exploring and relaxing in the garden so apartment living would not be best for this fellow.
Gill has had a major dental with several teeth extracted and as a result of xrays our vet advised that Gill has some issues with his hips and back legs, probably something he has had since birth although there is now some arthritic change. Our vet has prescribed some pain relief which Gill now takes every second day and you would not know that he had any issues. Ideally, a home with no stairs or limited stairs would be best for little Gill particularly to the outside area.
We do not believe Gill has had much previous socialisation outside of the home environment and as a result,he can get overwhelmed/reactive to things that move in the big outside world. Due to this, we have placed him on some anxiety medication and his foster carer has been working hard with Gill over the last month or so with positive reinforcement training techniques. Gill shows improvement each day. His new family must be prepared to continue this training and Gill's foster carer will be able to provide you with advice on the techniques that have been working. Gill will, of course, remain on the anxiety medications for the transition period. Whilst Gill does enjoy his walks shorter more frequent ones of 25 mins or so are best. He travels well in the car and loves going on outings in the car.
Gill is also living with a cat in his foster home.
If you think you can provide a loving peaceful home environment for Gill, and continue to work with him in a calm, positive and loving way then please send us as much information about yourself, your other dog/s, and the home and lifestyle you are able to provide this lovely little gentleman.
