About Layla
Sue, co-founder of SAFE Rehoming and Layla's foster carer, reports....
Layla is alert and intelligent and quite a beauty with her pastel colouring, apricot nose stripe and stunning eyes which are yellow or green depending on the light.
I have had the privilege of getting to know Layla for about 3 months now and she has come on in leaps and bounds. Gradually, using feeding time, I have got to the stage where she greets me at the door of her room and enjoys strokes as she circles round me, head butting and generally enjoying my company. We play several times a day and she loves the wand toy, though when she catches it she likes to sit on it!
Layla was being fed with a group of cats by a kind family in Liverpool and she made friends with another kitten called Lennox (we called them all names starting with 'L' as they came from Liverpool). These two kittens had bonded and initially we kept them together, however Lennox is very confident & more interactive so Layla held back as he took up all my attention. When we separated them she came into her own and became much more responsive. Because of this we think she would be best as an only cat in a quiet household where she can bond with one special person.
Layla is still very unsure of strangers and resorts to hiding around them but if you are prepared to work with this sweetie she will respond. For the first week or so she will probably hide but the way to her heart is through food, and using that, with perseverance, little by little she will start to allow you into her life. It will take time to bond with her but it will be well worth it. I can provide you with a detailed plan to help you both adapt and get the best out of the relationship. Layla is still a young girl and I am sure that In her forever home, with the correct encouragement, she will develop even further.
Getting to know Layla has taken time but she is a delight. It has been so rewarding to witness her blossoming and she now chats and purrs when she sees me. Layla has opened her heart to me so I am confident that with love and patience she will be a lovely companion for a mature person in a quieter household.
