About Jack ~ 4.5yr Border Collie x (On Trial 21/5/21)
Hi I’m Jack and I’m a special 4.5year old Border Collie x Staffy. I’m a gorgeous looking boy who takes a little while to get to know new people but once I trust you I’m playful and like putty in your hands .
I have quite a big bark - so if you want to be alerted to visitors I certainly know how to do that! The reason why I bark is because I am nervous of new people so I tell them to go away. Some people find my bark very daunting but I’m not as scary as I sound - it’s fear based behaviour. My new family should be experienced dogs owners - people who will behave confidently with me rather than be scared of me. I’m trying very hard to understand that new people don’t mean me any harm.
My perfect home would be one with just adults - perhaps people 40 years plus old who don’t have children or perhaps a semi-retired couple whose kids have already left home. I will need a safe place or room to withdraw to when your friends visit - crate training in my new home will really help with my fears as it gives me a safe and happy place to go to when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I won’t suit apartments or townhouses. I’ll need solid colourbond or wooden fencing so I can’t see things on the other side as I like to bark at people or dogs on the other side (it’s a naughty habit that I need to work on).
With all the serious stuff aside I’m a total lovebug with my humans once I know them. I love my foster dad and we play rough and tumble games which I really enjoy. He carries me around like a baby and I love to lay on his lap upside down. I love pats and cuddles from him and am a very affectionate lapdog!
I’m quite an active and energetic boy so I’d love daily walks once I’ve settled into my new home. With a bit of training I may even be your running buddy if you’re a jogger. I’m in foster care with a number of other medium to large breed dogs - I’m friendly enough but am a tad bossy because I’m not confident. Typical of my breed I enjoy “rounding up” the other dogs like they are sheep. If the other dogs play “chasies” with me I run away and cry so my new family should work on positive and controlled dog socialisation for me. I may suit a home with another friendly and tolerant female (medium-sized) dog - a dog who will show me the ropes and be a positive role model for me.
If you love helping those dogs that are just a little bit special and aren’t daunted by the task of teaching me to trust others, then please email Jo on rescuepooch75@gmail.com . You can also fill out my adoption questionnaire here https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt
I am in foster care near Medowie, NSW (north of Newcastle). My adoption fee is $400 and includes my desexing, vaccination, microchipping, flea and worm treatments. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption. More details of our Adoption Procedure on our website: https://tinyurl.com/adoptproc
