About Chocky
Looking for a special someone who will open their heart and home to this special little man.
Chocky is a 7 and a half year old Miniature Dachshund who has a few special needs - we ask that you read his bio IN FULL before applying.
This gorgeous man has been observed in a foster carers home for some time, so we do know the requirements he needs in a future family to ensure he continues to thrive.
Chocky has come into care with severe anxiety - as a result it will take him a few weeks to settle into his new home. When Chocky is stressed or anxious he will pace (do laps of a house) and can bark to let you know he is anxious.
He is very timid and does take a while to settle into his new surroundings and as such until he is comfortable with you and his home he will not come up for pats or cuddles.
Chocky's new family / person will need to be prepared to give him the time and space to settle into his new environment. He is on medication for his anxiety and does require someone to be home more often than not.
When Chocky does become comfy in his surroundings he will happily wander around and go outside and sunbake, or sleep near you if you are working from home. Chocky does not do well with changes to his environment or routine and is not a dog that would enjoy long walks, the beach etc.
Chocky has learnt sleeping on a couch or in a bed is quite a lovely feeling, so when he is settled, he would most likely want to continue this. We highly recommend stairs for him to access the bed, couch etc as his little legs and back are not made to jump or for steps.
He also needs to be able to access inside at all times as if he is locked outside for any reason he will try and escape, but if there is a door opened for him to access, he is happy.
We are still working on the toilet training and he does do his best to go outside (following the other furkids is helpful).
Chocky is dog friendly and we believe the key to him settling into any new home is having at least one more small breed dog for him to be with him to follow and learn from.
He has a very, very, healthy appetite and there does not seem to be a single food he will not happily eat.
He would prefer a home with children over the age of 8 as small children who run and scream and jump about can make him very anxious and he may withdraw.
Once Chocky is comfortable and feeling secure in his home and he does come for pats and cuddles then you will be his best friend for life! He will happily follow you around wherever you go in the house or out in the yard (he is a shadow and his humans must be able to accept that).
Chocky is an absolutely gorgeous boy but his anxiety must be understood, acknowledged and is part of who this dapper gentleman is. He will need time, space and patience to settle into his new environment.
Please only apply if you are able to give him the time and space he needs and are willing to work with him to be the best version of himself just as he deserves.
** Please note applications will close Monday 20th July 2020 at 5.30pm
Medical notes
Chocky has had dental work (over $1,000) worth - no issues with his teeth however like all dogs should have a yearly dental check.

If applying to adopt one of our furbabies over the age of 6 months we recommend that you bring to the meet and greet any of your furbabies to see how they interact.

Paw Prints Canine Rescue has a 2 week trial period – this basically means that if for any reason the adoption does not work out and the dog needs to be returned to us, the adoption fee minus an admin fee (minimum is $100) will be returned to the adoptees via bank transfer within 7 working days.
Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
