About Helix - Located in Pascoe Vale
Mystical wizard cat Helix is seeking his purrrfect indoor-only forever home!
This magnificent ‘snow lion’ is an affectionate sweetheart who wants nothing more than to be surrounded by humans he can love and trust.
Helix is a very sweet, vocal social cat, greeting you whenever you enter a room or come home: he will be sure to tell you all about his day whilst purring like a steam engine.
He loves a tickle around the head and ears, and will situate himself close by as his humans settle themselves. He can be slightly rough when expressing affection or communicating boundaries, but he just needs to know that you are listening, and he feels heard.
He also loves to clean and prune himself, dropping down to the floor (sometimes right under your feet!) showing off his rotundness as he licks himself clean.
He is naturally a ‘big boy’ but would benefit from losing some weight. He will chase his toys around but loves it if his humans play with him.
He’s had some skin issues which have been controlled with the hypoallergenic diet Hills z/d, which he will need to stay on for life.
Although he has gone through a rough patch as a street cat, he is a big smoochy fluffball who loves to be close to you.
He would be ideally suited to a household with no other pets or small children, but plenty of human company to keep him feeling safe and secure.
In return, he will happily shower his new family with much love and affection.
Helix has been diagnosed with a heart murmur. Heart murmurs are quite common in cats and can occur at any age.
I am FIV+ which is not contagious to humans, so I don't see that as a negative, because I really am a glorious cat and a great catch.
IMPORTANT NOTE - COVID19 PRACTICES
Due to the current lockdown in Melbourne we once again need to do things a little differently!
Once you have applied for a cat our foster carer will contact you by telephone.
If at the end of this discussion you would like to progress we will then arrange an online meet n greet with the carer and cat.
If you think this cat might be your PURRFECT match we will be utilising our premises at Neko HQ in Preston for the final meet n greet and if agreed adoption.
Our carers are unable to have a guest in their homes.
We ask that only one person from the family attend, and that all COVID safe practices are followed to ensure your health and that of our volunteers as well as the general community.
We thank you for your patience throughout this process.

Helix has been diagnosed with a heart murmur Grade 2. Heart murmurs are quite common in cats and can occur at any age. This murmur is currently not causing him any health issues and can be monitored by his vet at his routine health checks.
FIV positive cats live a normal life for many many years and we cannot predict the life span of these cats. FIV positive cats sometimes have a scruffy coat and the condition can lead to chronic recurrent infections in the mouth, eye and skin. FIV cannot infect people, however it can infect other cats through bite wounds commonly from fights. FIV positive cats can co-exist with other cats that don't have FIV without issues.
We encourage that the cat is either an indoor cat or a confined cat - eg access to a cat run outdoors. We recommend regular vet visits (6 monthly) to monitor weight, coat changes, mouth etc.

Helix suffers from allergic skin disease. When he eats certain foods or comes into contact with some environmental allergens he becomes extremely itchy and will self-mutilate himself from over grooming. His skin disease has been treated by a hypoallergenic diet, and prednisolone tablets, He no longer needs tablets because diet of only Hills ZD now has this under control.
No other known health issues.
Maneki Neko Cat Rescue would like to help ensure you and your new companion have a long and happy life together.
If you should find that you are not a purrfect match - or if you need to rehome your cat at any stage of its life - Maneki Neko Cat Rescue will take the cat back into care and find a new home.
Maneki Neko Cat Rescue provides a 7 day health warranty on all adoptions.
Although all our cats and kittens are health checked prior to adoption, sometimes the stress of a new environment can upset their immune system.
