On Hold
About Grace. Melbourne
Despite her age, Gracie has plenty of energy for a 9-year-old hound. She is great on lead, full of beans and bounce on her walks. Like all greyhounds, however, her energy comes and goes in waves. She is super excited to greet you when you get up and demands a walk first thing in the morning. She will nap after food for a solid 5 hours, unless of course she gets visitors, or she sniffs something resembling food or drink. Gracie usually has a surge of energy for zoomies and play times in the afternoon.
Gracie LOVES human company. She enjoys being the centre of attention, however she has grown to tolerate the company of her foster brother, fellow greyhound, Sirius. We think Gracie would be happy to be an only dog.
Whilst she has learnt a lot in foster care, such as how to play with toys and roach, Gracie is still learning not to jump on people in excitement or counter surf for food. Unfortunately, Gracie has thinks stairs are SCARY and refuses to learn to use them.
Because of her excitable nature, Gracie is not suitable for a house with small children.
No cat or small dog applications please.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
